hi there,

going to start tygacil in about one month! wanted to ask for experience of others!
whats the dosage? 50mg a day? no one used it in germany till now. i am the pilot [Big Grin]
how long have others been treated with it?
what to do against the big nausea everyone is talking about?
will it get me well? bad question, no one can answer that [Big Grin] but tell me what you think, but please only answer if you have already been on it! dont want answers which are just hypothetic.

got much of treatment and 2 three month courses of IV with ceftriaxone and invanz on the other hand behind me. so i think i ll tolerate the expected herx.

im well informed and sure of all risks. i do NOT care because i d be dead more likely than keep on living with lyme [Frown]

i also would be intrested if really sick people, like me, fully recovered from lyme and are still doing well.
im sick for 2 years now, and i am a really fatigued, air hungry boy with chest pain. these are my persisent symptoms. everything other is eliminated. im doing better, but i still have a very big handicap.

at the end sorry for my bad english, im from germany, hope you can understand my post =)

regards to all and best wishes
bye

I know one person who took it for several weeks along with a couple of other antibiotics. She is feeling better than ever but not calling herself cured yet.

Apparently the stomach nausea is very bad and she used medication for it.

I was on Tygacil for 8 months at the typical dose of 50mg twice daily. I took it in combination with other antibiotics and Malarone for coinfections.

Will Tygacil make you better? That is impossible for me to guess. Is Tygacil a miracle Lyme cure? No I don't think that it is. I'm still very sick.

Nausea was a symptom that I struggled with long before I started treating Lyme. Tygacil made it worse. I took zofran, phenergan, and tigan to try to make it bearable. I didn't have an appetite but learned to eat a little something every couple hours to keep my blood sugar stable.

It wasn't just the nausea that made Tygacil hard to tolerate. I also experienced worse headaches, light and sound sensitivity, and vertigo. I spend most of my time lying still in my bed in the dark.

Tygacil wasn't all bad though. It did help with my vision and cognitive symptoms. They had gotten so severe that I struggled to read and comprehend more than a sentence or two at a time. I could not remember what I read or said or was told just moments before. I still struggle with these things but not nearly as much as I had before.

Good luck with you new treatment plan nanaaaaa. I hope that it makes you well.

nanaaaaa, I was hesitant to write my experience because I didn't want you to doubt your doctor's decision to try this antibiotic. You won't know if it will help you unless you try it. If this doesn't make you better after a month or two then move onto something else.

Just please keep hope. OK

I made it through 2 weeks of Tygacil so my experience to too short to say. My LLMD said that every one of his patients had a rough time with it. I know there are people that have gotten better with it but I don't think it is a magic bullet.

I did 4 months at full dose... nausea first month was tough but by 3rd didn't have it any more.

I never did the anti-nausea meds, just ginger ale & crackers. I didn't give a crap about gluten free or sugar...I survived.

Would have done it longer but got a blood clot along side the PICC line.

Been off lyme treatmet for 2 yrs. Do I think it "cured me"? Not sure, don't know if I'll ever be totally infection free.

Dx MS for 17yrs before finding out it was Lyme, Bart & Babs. 6 yrs various oral protacals before I.V. Tigecyl.

Definately worth trying. Good luck.
