I have tested positive through EDS for C-Diff, but am asymptomatic. I never really did many abx for lyme as I am allergic to most of them, so I don't think that's how I got it.

I have spent a lot of time in a nursing home and hospital with an elderly aunt that I look after, so believe that's where I picked it up.

I am very worried about passing this to my kids and husband if I haven't already. I have given them S. Boullardi - Yarrow brand from Whole Foods.

I have read here that Florastor is the best prevention. So I plan to order some. How much should I give to two teenagers, ages 14 and 15, and an adult?

Also, I am allergic to brewers yeast, the main ingredient in S. Boullardi, and have just been taking probiotics. Is there anything else we can take to prevent this?

I've also been careful with cleaning the bathroom etc with clorox.

Thanks for any advice.

WEll, I think c diff is mainly only contagious if you are having an outbreak of symptoms. I guess what I'm trying to say is that normal handwashing and bathroom cleaning practices should be enough to keep your family safe.

S boullardi has to be taken continuously for it to work and it will not prevent someone from getting c diff. It only works to more or less control it from becoming a problem. S Boullardi is a yeast that overpopulates other bacteria in the gut(aka c diff). I like to think of it as acting like probiotics.

BTW-Matthew 11:28 is my favorite scripture!

Yes, it is my favorite verse too. Feeling pretty 'weary and burdoned' today.

Thanks for the advice.

it's been the story of my life and I found peace when I first read it.

I'm glad there is a place we can go to find peace.

Taken from a web site:

C. difficile can spread to other patients in the
hospital. So its very important to take steps
to prevent C. difficile from spreading. Hand
washing is the best way to prevent the
spread of infection. Alcohol-based cleaners
are less effective in fighting C. difficile.

You need to wash your hands well with
soap and warm water.

You should wash your hands before you eat
and after you use the bathroom or bedpan.

Health care staff should wash their hands
before and after giving you care.

Your visitors should wash their hands before
they enter and leave your room, after they
help care for you, and before they eat.

If diarrhea returns, tell your doctor immedi-
ately. If you need to go back into the hospital,
tell the doctors and nurses you have a history
of C. difficile.

If you have diarrhea when you leave the hospital,
follow the guidelines below. Family members
who care for you also should follow these
guidelines:

Good hand washing is very important:

- Wash your hands well before you eat or
prepare food.

- Wash your hands well after you use the
toilet or bedpan.

- Wash your hands well before and after
you care for a person with C. difficile.

If possible, wear disposable gloves if you
must handle stool.

 Clean the bathroom frequently.

Put disposable wastes, like diapers or
other such items, into plastic bags. Tie bags
securely, and throw them out with the
regular trash.

If clothes are heavily soiled with stool, wash
them separately in detergent and bleach.
Clothes not soiled with stool can be washed
with other clothing.

Kombucha is another source of s boulardii since you can't take it in supplement form. Kefir made at home might, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
