Hi,

My 4 yo great-niece lives in an area which is endemic for Lyme. They have deer in their backyard where she plays.

3 weeks ago, I saw an oval pink homogeneous area about 3-4 inches when I saw it (not sure how long it had been there) with a small raised bump in the center. There was also a small area of normal looking skin on the periphery and then a faint area of redness in one area. The rash resolved in several days and she feels well with no swollen glands.

Her parents took her to their pediatrician who did not feel she needed treatment for Lyme. I feel this rash could certainly be Lyme and she should be treated.

Her parents(fa is an M.D.) believe the pediatrician and are not willing to do anything further.

BTW, I showed a pix of the rash to my LLMD and she said if it were her patient, she would treat. MY niece and husband refuse to have my great-niece seen by LLMD.

Anyone have any stories of how their pediatrician didn't treat the rash or told them it was not Lyme, when children went on to get sick.

They believe their pediatrician is right.

Thanx.

Well if she comes down with flu like symptoms within a couple of weeks it is also a tell tale sign. Of course without a picture (and it doesn't have to be bulls eye) one will need to pass the elisa and then WB to be considered positive.

Maybe she will be lucky and it was just a spider bite.

Yes, my son had "ringworm".

Ringworm that never resolved with ringworm treatment.

At that time though....I admit, Lyme never crossed my mind.

Never crossed the Dr's mind either.
