Hi again, One more question: Is Plaquenil suppose to treat Bartonella? Could someone tell me what exactly are Bart;s symptoms? The side of both feet hurt in a small area, not the soles. I am off the two of them and I was doing okay on them except for the terrible taste in my mouth. 3 weeks later, I started vomiting. I couldn't hold either of them down. I don't know if it was a herx, a yeast herx, or just couldn't handle these drugs but coming off the three meds the next day created some drastic yeast herx. Crying, wanting to kill myself, anxiety, dry mouth, constipation, you name it....a week later, it all subsided and I felt great, now 3 weeks later, I still get anxious, depressed, achy, itchy, but I think those are my lyme issues that I had to begin with. I am almost ready to go back on meds but scared of the beast called "yeast" That is the biggest KILLER. Kerry

I have had no problem on clarthymiacin (generic biaxin, Dr. C uses TIVA brand only, should smell like vanilla) and Plaquenil. Ketoconazole is used for yeast. I would not expect you to have a reaction to the meds after three weeks. However, my first Herx was severe tingling through my head and down my back. I would check side effects of all new medicines on-line. Doctors don't tend to do this. This is from Medline. Ketoconazole may cause liver damage. Tell your doctor if you drink or have ever drunk large amounts of alcohol and if you have or have ever had liver disease. Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking acetaminophen (Tylenol, others); cholesterol-lowering medications (statins) such as atorvastatin (Lipitor), fluvastatin (Lescol), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), or simvastatin (Zocor); isoniazid (INH, Nydrazid); methotrexate (Rheumatrex); niacin (nicotinic acid); or rifampin. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark yellow urine, pale stools, pain in the upper right part of the stomach, or flu-like symptoms. Possibly you should try the Clarythmiacin with Plaquenil and not the ketoconazole.

hey, thanks for the info. I had almost every symptom you mentioned on all of those drugs until I finally threw up and got off of everything. Like I said I feel alot better off than on. But on the other hand, I have a problem with yeast , what drug am I gooing to take to help with that while on antibiotics. My question is Plaquenil is it for Bart? It is antimalaria drug so I did not understand why he put me on it. I thought Bart was treated with antibiotics Kerry

from what i understand, plaquenil does not affect bart. It does make biaxin more effective, and i think biaxin might hit bart a little bit. I have been on biaxin/plaquenil along with ceftin for 4 weeks and seems to be a good combo.
