I am new to this forum and need any feedback for my continuos herx I’ve been having.

I was dx with Lyme and mycoplasma 8 years ago in 2010. Went into remission around 2013 and felt great until May of 2017. Got very ill again in May and I stated oral antibiotics. In September I switched to IV antibiotics and colloidal silver for 6 weeks. I stopped IV treatment end of November and have been herxing ever since.

In the past, antibiotics always made me feel better with the lyme but when I attempt oral now, I get extremely sick with normal neurological Lyme symptoms (head fog, headaches, heavy head, tingling, anxiety, burning headaches and dizziness or the feeling I’m on a boat etc). My llmd would like me to detox before continuing treatment (my bands are still pretty high and dr wants to treat orally for about another year). Is it possible to start a herx 3 months ago and still not be able to detox?

I have been trying detox protocols like daily oral glutathione along with occasional IV glutathione, Epsom salt baths, lemon water, burbur, pinella and enemas/colonics. I usually feel great for about a day after IV glutathione or a colonic, but then back down to sick again after about a day or 2. I would like to start treating soon but can’t when it makes me as sick as it does.

Some of what you are experiencing could be GI upset from the Rx. Slippery Elm &/or Marshmallow Root Powder might be of help there as well as a gluten free diet (though you likely already are gluten free)

Be sure antiobitic pills are in the MIDDLE of a good sized meal, never on an empty stomach.

PROBIOTICS also - timed away from Rx.

I would go more for liver support rather than "detox" events. I hate detox events as I think they can be harder on the body and cause anxiety. What I mean is better explained here.

Milk thistle might be something to consider.

You might need to consider a different approach. Some people just can't "do" oral antibiotics due to stomach issues.

First: look up all books about tick borne infection by Stephen H. Buhner (exceedingly lyme "literate" master herbalist author - he does not have patients, though his books are excellent).

The dizziness you report makes me concerned for the matter of ototoxicity and vestibular toxicity that many antibiotics and many Rx pose.

Liver support MIGHT help but no guarantee. But, never - ever - take any ototoxic or vestibular toxic Rx without good basic liver support & magnesium on board.

Magnesium L-Threonate is a good one for the brain protection. Source Naturals a good brand, for instance.

Thank you for the response and attached posts Keebler! I am currently not on any antibiotics and haven’t been since November.

I do think focusing on the liver cleanse would be good for me because that is the only detox I really haven’t done, even though right now I am on a msm detox which include high doses of magnesium, potassium, rutin and Alfa sulflex.

I tried the milk thistle as well as turmeric to help with inflammation but no such luck. I don’t have any gut issues at all, the antibiotics just intensify all my neuro sysmptoms like the dizziness and burning headaches, but very severely to the point where I can’t even get out of bed. [Frown]

Please do not think of it as a liver cleanse. It's not like you can put it in the dishwasher. Please think more in terms of nutrients for the liver to be able to do what it normally does.

Language and terms can be fuzzy. My concern is that while To "cleanse" the liver, to "detox" the liver may be some of the same support measures I mention in the links set, yet, all too often a liver "cleanse" or "dotox" is event driven with a harshness that can really hurt the liver or, more often, just make a person feel just awful.

There are many other nutrients for the liver besides milk thistle. But all liver support is not something that is going to produce fast results. It's about feeding the liver nutrients. In time, then, the liver can better function. More detail in the links set.

Some who find milk thistle too strong do better with dandelion. And those with tender gallbladders may not do so well with turmeric other than low amounts.

The dizziness of abx could be ototoxicity. I hope you can find a way that works for you. In the "How to find a LL ND" links there are some good links . . . . Buhner's books may offer you hope and relief.

Take care.

Pulling from the EAR thread:

GINGER CAPSULES can help relieve nausea and dizziness.

But it needs to be kept up at a therapeutic dose that only the capsules seem to provide. Although the tea can help a bit.

Take Ginger Capsules a couple hours away from Rx. It has some antioxidant properties and it may speed Rx through too fast if taken at the same time.

GINGER

I really like Oregon's Wild Harvest - www.vitacost.com carries it. iHerb might, too.

There are some homeopathic sublingual pellets, too, that can ease discomfort instantly (great for flying).
