Can't get in to my LLMD until September. An ID dr put me on 200 mg doxy on 7/5'and incread the dosage to 400 mg on 7/ 15.

A few days later I started to develop non- stop heart palpitations. I went to my GP and had an EKG and everything was normal. I sent an email to the LLMD and they said that a lot of Lyme patients have heart palpitations.

The heart palls are pretty much 24/7. I have not been able to sleep for the past 6 night bc my heart is beating so much and much more pronounced when lying down.

As I can't get in to my LLMD for 6 more weeks I'm not sure what to do. Is this a hers reaction? Is ,y body not detoxing? If I lowered the dosage back to 200 mg until I see the LLMDbwould it cause a problem?

I contacted the LLMD before increasing the dosage and they said to go tom400 mg. my numbness and tingling has also increased on the 400 mg. I can bear thru the other symptoms but the heart palps are worrisome and uncomfortable and now preventing me from sleeping.

Any guidance is appreciated!

Thanks

If it were ME (and it's not), I would back down to the 200mg or even stop it for a few days to let the herx pass. You don't want to end up in the ER.

If my heart were reacting that badly, I would stop the med for at least a few days.

You may even be having a drug reaction.

Good advice above, especially since it's a weekend. You could be reacting to the med, itself, (especially if all your support is in place - see detail below).

Yes, heart palpitations are very common with lyme and during treatment. So often, due to the magnesium deficiency that lyme can cause. And due to the stress on the liver & kidneys. They need help.

Your liver support may need some adjusting. Increased or irregular heart rate could also mean the toxity level is too high. What helps:

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.

SEA SALT. Getting enough for your body in his hot summer? Regular table salt - or salt in processed foods is not a good idea, though.

Water, too? Not too cold or ice water, though, that cold is a shock your insides don't need and can stress the heart.

Try not to let your body get too warm for your comfort level. Many with lyme can't manage heat very well. Avoid where possible.

With doxycycline, you must avoid sun exposure but also be careful about getting overheated.

Double check all your foods to be sure you are not consuming any excito-toxic additives that can cause various heart rhythm irregularities (among other things):

Thanks for the advice. I will stop the meds for a few days and see what happens.

I have been taking magnesium supplements for a few weeks per Burascanno's guidelines. And taking probiotics.

This is just a scary symptom - especially when my ID dr doesn't know much about Lyme and I am not officially under the care of a LLMD. Feel like I am trying to navigate it on my own ( of course with the help of all of you) and thank goodness for that. [Smile] .

You may not be getting enough magnesium. Hope you can see the articles. You could need 1,000 - 2,000 mg a DAY - but in divided doses (3 times).

This will settle down but it is really common so hold on.

Good luck.
