Hi guys!

Can you all point me to a good digestive enzyme for people with ulcers and no gallbladder?

Also, what's a safer alternative to Prilosec for stomach/small intestine ulcers?

(I tried the Prilosec that the Gastro Dr Rx'd 2x/day and felt like I was going to die: nausea, dizziness, weakness for about 4 hours after each dose.)

Thank you!!!!!

The things that I recommend for ulcers are:

Real, whole organic licorice root. This means the powdered root, made up into capsules. Or a tea from the licorice root. If you have high blood pressure it isn't the right medicine.

The DGL is usually recommended for those with high blood pressure. I have not found the DGL (deglycerized licorice root) to be as effective, and only suggest it when someone has high blood pressure.

The second plant medicine I recommend is Mastic Gum, available via a few different brands from iherb, amazon, etc. It has been very helpful. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.

Other things that are inexpensive and helpful to heal the ulcers: organic aloe juice, slippery elm bark and marshmallow bark. All of these can be purchased online for a low fee.

Hope this is helpful ~

Enzyme safe for ulcers: Enzymedica's Acid Soothe.

DGL, ginger root tea, and the things Riverspirit posted are excellent for restoring the health of the lining of the stomach.

Take Licorice 20 minutes before meals for best results.

Take the ulcer-safe enzymes immediately before, or in the middle of, a meal for best results.

If the other suggestions don't help, look into PepZin GI.

Find it at iHerb.com and at Amazon.com.
I've had good results for gastric reflux, and the reviews are excellent.

My brother-in-law says cayenne pepper helps his stomach ulcers. Mix 1/4 teaspoon in 2 tablespoons of water and swig it down.

Don't get it on your lips or they burn.

That sounds like crazy talk. Good for him if it works for him, but I think that would be brutal for most people with ulcers. There's a reason you say don't get it on your lips or it will burn. A strong amount of ceyenne like that is also something you wouldn't want to get on damaged esophagus lining or stomach lining, or it will burn.

As others have said; Slippery Elm, Marshmallow Root and Licorice Root. I had a flare up of gastritis recently and after 3 days of this dynamic trio I am back to normal again.

NOW brand "Digest Platinum" it is the best that I can find. I've tried so many, including all the high priced ones. Many hurt my stomach.

I had a bad bleeding ulcer found with the scope but it got better while on these enzymes. I had been on omeprazole in the am but it wasn't enough so the doc added pepcid before bed. The pepcid really helped.

Also, I had to elevate the head of my bed when sleeping. That was big. My dentist told me that I wouldn't get better without doing that. He noticed damage on my teeth from it and could see evidence on my tongue.

At first all I could do was roll a big sheet up under my pillow. That was enough firmness to prop my head. It worked. Then someone helped add bed lifts at the top of my bed.

You can get better from this.

Make sure you get sulfur-free or filtered aloe...the sulfur is very irritating to mucus membranes...

I absolutely love pure encapsulations digestive enzymes. Not sure how they correlate with an absent gallbladder but they work great for me.
