I've heard this mentioned a few times in here and I am beginning to wonder if I'm experiencing it. I am not by nature an angry person, but I am a fighter when I need to be. Lately, I have been fighting with my boyfriend almost non-stop. The strange thing for me, and I think what it making it difficult for me to decipher, is that there *is* a rational basis for my anger most of the time (in the past, I really did fight for no reason what-so-ever and I laugh when I think of how ridiculous I was). The problem is that the anger is bigger than the situation needs and I can't seem to let it go. Is this what people mean when they talk about "lyme rage"?

Is it just with him or with everyone?

I found with me it was all the time, no matter who it was or what the situation.

Ditto that on the divorce.

My ex was so verbally and emotionally abusive and said I had an anger problem. Funny now that I'm not living with an a** that I don't have it anymore.

Now seriously, as stated above, see if you are angry in general or just at the BF. Or notice if he is just your whipping boy as the safest person in your life.

These are tough issues anyway and then to have them exacerbated by medications and illness makes them tougher.

I have had some really rough episodes of lyme rage and they are pretty much gone now. My coping strategies were to pay much attention to them, warn my family when I felt them coming on, be by myself to scream and journal even if that means taking a ride, sitting in the park for hours or whatever it takes not to hurt someone's feelings while getting this out.

Understanding them and planning for them helps a bunch. [Eek!]

I think chroniccosmic has a good point, I really may be using him as a whipping boy. I get angry at lots of things but I only take it out on him.

I have a lot of pressure on me up here that the Lyme only seems to have piled on top of, this is the first time I have dealt with the infection on my own (i.e., without my own family and friends nearby) and I am sure that isn't helping.

It has gotten markedly worse since I started treatment though. When you mentioned the 'statins" does that include nystatin, because I have been taking that for a few weeks...

Thanks for all the input, I think starting a journal again is a very good plan indeed.

definitely sounds like lyme rage. I had it before treatment and for about 5 or more months after. Maybe even 9 months after but not as bad. The first 2 months of treatment were awful.

It helps a lot to realise that's what it is. I made a lot of alone time for myself- that helped. I also meditated on Asian philosophies quite a bit and that helped a lot. Not sure if that might help you.

I've always had a bit of a temper and have spent a lot of time practicing self disipline- I'll walk away when very angry so I can calm down. It helps to let people know what you are dealing with and that you are trying to deal with it. It should help you both to know that with treatment it does get better!!

If you can focus on humor that helps a lot too. Even if all you can manage is very dark humor, it still helps.

humor was just mentioned, bookmark LYMETOO/TUTU'S LAUGHTER POST here on general! i continue to add to it daily as i get a good belly laugh; see if that helps deflate things.

i take a xanax generic for my quick temper; sure helps me. those around us ARE the ones who get our wrath of anger unintentionally.

my dear sweet husband doesn't deserve it, and i'm sorry goes to far when i'm a repeat offender.

we have a saying in our bathroom hanging right where we see it,

"ONE NICE PERSON AND OND OLD GROUCH LIVE HERE!" we take turns on the grouch; but it's mostly me
