Hey guys. not sure if it's just me or not, but I've noticed that everyone I've met with Lyme

always looks way younger than they actually are...

anyone else observe that?

if so, at least there's one positive thing from this.. haha. hey, Lyme : the fountain of youth.

anyway, just a thought. hope everyone is doing well today. take care

I get told that too.

I always figured it was because I've been stuck in the house for 24 years and haven't been out in the sun.

I have had this discussion before with a group of friends that have Lyme and we all have been told that we look younger than we actually are.

I don't understand it, but it's one of the only benefits that I have noticed from being infected with this DD!

Huh! Me Too! I'm 28 - going on 100 LOL - and almost everyone thinks I'm seventeen or eighteen! I always get hit on by high school boys - when I tell them how old I am they get embarrassed!

Thank God that's at least one (and probably the only) bonus from having this crap!

spirocutes?? [lol]

Me too!!

It never occurred to me there could be a connection.

I feel twice my age, but look 10 years younger.

I'm always told how surprised people are at how old my children are. I thought people were (trying to) being polite!

Frankly, I've been getting annoyed by comments the past year or so.

(If you chage the title of this thread, I bet you'll get tons more responses like this. [Smile] )
Just a suggestion.

Carly, I get that too about the children. When I'm out of the house with my 20 year old people are shocked that she's my daughter. Then they try to politely pry about how old I was when I had her .... I was 25!!

Six-
Sometimes they can get pretty rude, though!
(without meaning to be, of course.) Some people have no boundaries.

I'm 38. Been told I look 25. I have teenagers.
Then they do the math.

I have even been asked if I'm the biological mom! (My kids look just like me - They want to know if I was a teenage mom.)

Of course, sometimes I'm not very tolerant of people. I usually end up telling most - now these are barely acquantances- that it's rude to ask a woman her age.

It keeps them guessing; I don't care what anyone thinks!

I wonder if it is because Lyme uses up our zinc so our copper level is perhaps higher then most people's copper level?

Could it have anything to do with the zinc copper balance?

I am told all the time I look younger then my real age.

Mazou!! [lol] Lymebabes!! What an awesome idea!

We could put on lyme green bikinis and instead of posing at the beach or something we could just have all our abx and supplements in the background - throw in a couple of IV poles to make it really hot! Hahaha! God we're crazy!!!

This is too funny a thread to SOB without a comment.

I have heard this too. I thought people were being polite. I am 51, feel 101.

My hair color has not changed with age so I don't dye it, I have no crow's feet eyes or other signs of being 50.

Isn't Lyme great!

This is definetly interesting.... I've been with my daughter who is 21, and people think we're sisters. (I just thought they needed glasses - although this has happened a lot!)

Seriously, though, for the most part people think that I'm younger than I am. I work with someone in their thirties, and they thought I was younger than them. I'm 45.

I got a really good/bad one for you! (Although it's pretty disturbing as well) About a year ago, I was in a bookstore with my son, and the owner of the bookstore thought I was my sons wife!!!!!

Scarred my son for life!! [Eek!]

Angelica,

Interesting theory about the zinc and copper! I've developed melasma (hyperpigmentation) on my upper lip since getting Lymed.

I read somewhere at one point that melasma could be due to access copper in your system! You could really be on to something here!

Tick Tock and others.... so what about the hair color? Is that the main reason people think we/you are younger?

I am 57 going on 58 and I found my first gray hair a few months ago. I now have two! [Eek!] [Big Grin]

My own mother-in-law thought I was coloring my hair!! NOPE!

I think it's a lack of significant grey, just a bit at the temple, and a lack of wrinkles.

Maybe I'm just a hip cat, so people think I am younger. I haven't asked anyone to know for sure.

I do have a FaceBook page! Most people younger than me are surprised. My 17 year old daughter was very surprised to see that I even have friends on FaceBook.

Interesting! Me too...

When I was a teen - everyone thought I was older (got into bars, etc. when I was 14... they didn't proof as much back then).

Then I got to be in my 30s & everyone thought I was in my 20's. I'm almost 48 & people look surprised when I say I'm 48...

We do take tons of supplements!!!

My sisters & mother were completely gray at a young age. I have some gray but I don't really mind it - but most of my hair is in it's original color.

Same for me! I am 28 and people always think I'm 16. It's very annoying.

Just last week a new hire at my part time job asked me if I also went to school (that is in addition to working).

I think she assumed this because I have a part time retail job and look very young. I had to explain to her that I only work part time because of Lyme and that I'm accually 28.

I don't know for me if it has anything to do with Lyme. I always been this way. Hopefully it will pay off when I'm older.

Hey! Here is one good thing about looking 16 when you're 28. When sales people come to the door you can tell them your parents aren't home and they leave right away. [woohoo]
Works everytime. I don't have to energy to deal with them anyway.

hahaha. i actually got into the movies as a child!! you have to be 12 years old for that.

I was with my mom too, so it prob only made it worse.

when the girl at the window said 'child' my mom nudged me.. said 'shh...'

....tried it again later on, but it didn't work.

But yea, i think i've used it sometimes...

Either way. it's, once again, nice to know you're not alone in the matter [Smile]

Getting back to what Angelica said about the copper/zinc ratio, here's an interesting link about copper and what excess copper can do...

http://www.raysahelian.com/copper.html

.......but from what this says, excess copper would probably make us look older.

Me too! I always thought it's because I had Lyme since my youth and I never could do the partying, drinking and sunbathing orgies like others....

and yes: my zinc is low and my copper is high.

Maybe this could become a reliable Lyme test: if you look at least 10 years younger than your age then you have Lyme. If not, it's something else [Big Grin]

I just got carded this summer (buying beer for my husband, not me, unfortunately), the first time I've been carded in years. And I'm in my very late 30s! And I've been getting lots of compliments lately on my skin. So maybe lyme does have some kind of beauty perks. Can't wait for it to take hold in Hollywood!

Funny you should say that because I'm 26 and I got carded the day before my 26th b-day when I was at Walmart. I was trying to buy cough medicine!

People always assume I am younger, so you never know!

you've really hit on something here! my hubby says his friends call me his trophy wife!!

I always wondered if it had anything to do with lymies being more natural and outdoorsy people who probably eat better and exercise anyway.

or the diet of no sugar- our blander diets keep insulin levels steady and slow down the process...

or could it be the shoe box full of supplements?

Anyway, Cheers to all us pretty young things!!!

hmmmmmmm.

maybe. tho i have genetics (great grandma who's 90 and looks 60, true for her all of her life)

and i've injested a heck of allot of electrolytes, coconut oil, fish oils, nutritional stuff, meditation, kefir, chi machine, ect, ect..
for the past few years.

i'm (gulp) 40, and so long as i'm not in stress crisis and wearing lyme warrior garb (which is any sweats i find on the floor, and that alluring
"don king" look i get with no time to brush my hair)
ie:
if i'm basically pruned and preened, i look very young.
no wrinkles, people say 25-30's. they never think i'm old enough to have a teenager.

ho-hum. [Roll Eyes]

i'd sacrifice any of that to look 90 tomorrow and forever in exchange for having my kid safe, tho.

but this is a fun distraction topic.

LOL at the "no boobs" - I resemble that remark. Add to it the lovely acne and it's' no wonder people think I am younger than I am. As long as I keep the cellulite and stretch marks hidden I can pass myself off 10 years younger.

ha. ditto to the boobs comment...

in regards to the acne stuff...
I always have a breakout on my right cheek.

I have a friend who's a microscopist who is obsessed about lyme. he told me that one of the pathways for Lyme to enter the brain

is via the trigeminal nerve.

one of the branches of the trigeminal nerve is exactly where i'm ALWAYS broken out.

... so all these years, come to think they've been 'leaving crumbs' so to speak on where they've been/are

...all get random breakouts along my carotids, which apparently (?) means something too..

anway, didn't mean to side track off of the young thing. sorry [Frown]

...but yea.. me = no boobs [shake]

Hope everyone's having a 'feeling better than usual' day.

here's a little guy to cheer you up: [woohoo]

...sorry, a little wired tonight, not sure why....

alrighty,

So i'm taking a microbial metabolism class...

today we were talking about the electron transport chain and how oxygen sometimes leaks through the membrane ... oxygen radical is released...

These 'radicals' are what are thought to cause aging.

So my newest hypothesis is that maybe the spiro's are able to use those oxygen radicals to their benefit, thus releiving us lymies of aging due to the radicals.

I asked my professor if there would be any reason for a bacteria to benefit from free radicals;

he named a bacteria recently studied with gamma radiation. it apparently uses the radicals as energy.

...Interesting. Maybe I'll e-mail Dr. M and see what he thinks [Smile]

anyway, just another thing to think about.

Hope everyone's feeling well today

Well, I'll be darn. Something possitive? I look really young for my age. Everyone always thinks I'm in my 20's. Young guys hit on me a lot.

It use to offend me as I felt I could almost be their mother.. Then a friend pointed out I should be flattered... Good game, fibro fog.

I just turned 38, and here's to 40 which is right around the corner.

Cheers!

LOL! This is really something.

I have always been told I look much younger than I am. It sounds crazy, but I'm almost 53 and people think I am in my late 30's.

Until this thread I never thought much about it. I just figured people couldn't see very well. [Wink]

Lyme the fountain of youth...???

Just an illusion. Youth involves so much more than looking younger.

I don't think looking younger is of any help if I feel like I'm 110.

I think it's actually others who look older from some harsh lifestyles. My youthful appearance is from eating good food and not smoking, drinking or wearing a ton of make-up.

Still, this looking younger or "you don't LOOK sick" is just another cruel way that the illness masks the truth from others who don't have clue.

I find the same thing. I am 29 and have been mistaken for 24. Its weird because when i was 24 I was told I looked 26. That being said I was living a party lifestyle at the time.

My theory is its the diet and supplement programs we have to follow. Since I began all of these lifestyle changes my skin and complexion and pretty much every part of me has seen the benefits.

Unfortunately it does hide the underlying inflammatory issues that cause my symptoms.

I think anyone following Dr B's diet and supplement guidelines would see massive changes in their appearance.

I'm going to be 30 this year and get carded when I buy scratch tickets!!! Seriously??? I'm toting around 3 kids! You'd think that would tell them something!

Fun though! [Smile]

But I will say the sad part is I feel like I'm 90!

Add me to the list.

When I was in college the second time (in my mid 20's), the people I hung out with thoought I was in my 30s, and they wondered why I liked hanging out with them.

Now in the past 5-10 years, people have said I look younger than I am (I don't have a diagnosis yet, and don't know when I might have been infected).

One of my high school classmates commented onthe fact that everyone else in our class has aged, but I haven't (no visible wrinkles, etc.), and she wondered why.

Gee, should I tell her it's my new anti-aging routine? Go out and get bitten once every spring?

Lol, because of all the weight I've lost too, I've had people ask what my secret is. I tell them it's the 'keets.

My daughter w/ Lyme is 21, but whenever we go to a doctor appt., before reading her chart, the Dr. will usually say something like, "Oh, so how old are you sweetie, 15, 16??"...or, "You must be so sad to be missing high school, what grade are you in?"

She definitely doesn't appreciate it, but I have to agree, she looks the same age as her younger sister sometimes, who is 14. [Smile]

I get the same thing. I am constantly mistaken for 18-22. I will be 29 this year. I just thought it was good genes because my mom is 47 and everyone thinks she is my sister. Of course, she eats that right up. Ha, who wouldnt?

So why am I the only one who has developed alligator skin?!! (Mostly on my arms.) I've been
trying to figure that out.

I've read lyme likes collagen. Could that be it? And can I get it back?

Okay I need to get in on this conversation. I'm 24 and people always think that I am way younger than that.

But what us all this about having to eat bland and avoid sugars and things? So far no one has instructed me at all on my diet and Lyme. Infact I had lost 65 pounds back in 2006 through a lot of hard work, once I got lYME in '08 I was so exhausted and couldn't exercise anymore, then I started eating horribly because the bursts of sugar and carbs made me feel better for a little bit, so now I have gained back 45 of the 65 I had lost. Any suggestions on what to do about all taht and how I should be eating?

Danielle
