Hi Gang,I went to family services to apply and did.
I was told I have to take a class called Ohio works first.
I said if I could work i would still be at my job I had for 34 years.
And my immune system is low and I cant sit in a class room with 30 people any one of which could have swine flu or something else.
The lady said well you cant get assistance till you take the class.
Has anyone ran into this problem?????
I didn't see a garage door on the place that they could use to bring bedridden people in to attend the class first.
If I go back they will expirence lyme rage first hand!!!! I am ticked off!!!!

I think I would find someone who is able to make decisions to talk too..perhaps in writing.

I would ask if there is a separate application process or program for those who are disabled to get assistance.
Even if you aren't technically labeled as disabled, perhaps you could apply for the state to consider you disabled, then once you get that, they will give you food stamps just by you bringing in your medical records and all the info regarding your sources of income, to be sure you qualify financially too.
It does seem strange that they are lumping you in with healthy people. I would ask if that is normal, if the disabled people have to go through the same process as the non-disabled people who cannot afford food for whatever reason.
If there are no other options, I would just try to make it to the classes, if there is any way that you can. Not all of us have weakened immune systems....for some of us, they are in over-drive, which is different.

Maddog...I went, but I did not have my reclining power chair yet so I did lay on the floor and wasn't able to process what was being said.
thankfully, I Lived in a small town and there were only a few people attending.
Also not able to read the papers I was supposed to sign or sign them..just scribbled some ink where the signature went.
If noise bothers you as it does me, I put the ear muffs on that people use at the gun range.
I also wear dark sun glasses and still close my eyes as the lights are too much.
All of this for $25 a month in food stamps when I first went. But, $25 makes a positive difference.
Like you, I would prefer to be working and more independent.

I don't know about the cash assistance thing. I know they had these programs but most likely was not doing well enough to apply for it.
I ended up on SSI of $600 and something. Sad. So sad. But, thankful for the income while I heal.
If I were still working at my old job I would be earning $7,000 a month instead.
