The problem I see with this is getting a spinal tap. A lot more of a procedure than blood testing.

I wrote about this in my blog and posted comments on it. I think it would be good to have a confirmatory study, just to know if it can be reproduced.

At the same time, the more I think about it, why do we need a CSF test? If we have a history of tick bite, clinical signs of Lyme disease and coinfections, and serology does show evidence of infection - then why do a lumbar puncture? Lumbar punctures are higher risk than regular blood tests.

It also seems as if the argument is to use the protein profile to support the hypothesis that a pathogen triggered the illness they are calling Post-Lyme Disease Syndrome - it's not about current infection.

Actually, what would happen if they compared the protein in CSF with someone with acute Lyme disease and "nPLDS"? That would be interesting...

It is still nice to see good work being done and not just the acceptance that the IDSA has it all figured out.

When all these Lyme Vaccines get to market it'll be interesting to see how they market it. Why take a new vaccine when the worst that could happen is you have to take 2 weeks of Doxycycline?

onbam,

I haven't been able to get your file to play. Can you summarize what is being said about Matrix Metalloproteinases?

Is there somewhere else to get the linked-to material, if not the above link?
