Hello,
It has been ages since I have logged in here. I hope the Holidays haven't been too draining for you all! I know it can be quite taxing. It certainly is for me.

I haven't been able to keep weight on since I have been treating for Lyme and company the past couple of years. I am trying to eat as much as I can, but I have a lot of trouble swallowing solid food. My throat spasms while I eat, and it is very painful. I also have a hard time keeping food down. At this point I weigh 105 with all my winter clothes on and I am 5'9".

I try to drink smoothies as much as I can, but all the fruit adds up to a lot of sugar, which we all know isn't good for the yeast growth. So I think I need to find a simple, yet delicious protein shake drink kind of thing. It HAS to taste good, or the reality is that I just won't drink it.

Do any of you have a favorite? What do I even need to look for, as far as ingredients and nutrient content? I have never bought anything like this before, so I don't even know what I need. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

thank you!

We use the Vega Smoothie mix. It has all a great protein mix of legums, seeds and more. It's also sweetened with stevia, so no sugar there.

I mix it with unsweetened almond milk, blueberries and it passes the "kid test" as my 12 year old will drink it.

Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly, good luck with the protein shakes, they have been very helpful for us in getting my sons weight back up.

All the best!

If you just want nutrition try blending any food combo in a bullet blender and drink it.

I do this for my gut issues. It helps alot.

Also, if you have not treated parasites. I would suggest you look into that. I was losing weight like crazy.

Now I am back to a comfortable weight.

The only thing that stopped it was parasite meds and Nystatin.

Those two things turned my lifearound. I still do about two weeks of parasite meds around the full moon.

Read gael and gigi posts. They are very informative. Good parasite info.

cozynana, I didn't even think about parasites. Very good point indeed. I will bring it up to my doctor. Thank you!

canadianmama, I will try the vega smoothie mix. That is funny, passing the "kid test"... I know what you mean! I have two kids, and one will try almost anything, and the other flat out refuses! I watched him sit at the dinner table for 3 hours, refusing to try a single bite of food when he was about 7. It took until he was 12 before he would try lettuce on his plain and dry hamburger! I will try the smoothie mix. Thank you!

Whey protein is a good way to make smoothies too.

Jay Robb has several of them with stevia as the sweetener and no junk in them. I like the vanilla whey protein drink. I add all kinds of stuff to it.

I like using this one so I can add whatever I want without a predominant taste to deal with. There is an orange one that tastes like a dreamsickle.

You're welcome! It comes in Berry, Chocolate, Tropical and Vanilla.
My son likes to change them up so he doesn't get bored as he needs to drink at least two a day.

I would also agree about looking into parasite treatment.

All the best and good luck with the shakes.

Another great protein shake is Plant Fusion - not only is it vegan but it's Non-GMO. It comes in Vanilla (which we like),Chocolate, Berry and Unflavored.

Has a little Non-Gmo Fructose and Stevia as a sweetener. You can add a little fruit for variety. www.plantfusion.net

Vitamin Shoppe carries it.

Did you ever have your thyroid checked? If you are near an ART practitioner, they would be able to test your thyroid to see if it's functioning properly.

My blood tests (thyroid) always came back normal. My ART dr. found that my thyroid was out of whack. An ART dr. can also test you to see what your priorities are and treat accordingly.

Re: Ingredient accessment

First of all, avoid corn sugar by any of the million names it flies under.

Avoid fake foods and additives that are actually petroleum based. Google if in doubt of any ingredient. Search many authors' works for definitive word.

Beyond that:

Excitotoxins; MSG; Aspartame; & "Natural" Flavors;

GMO foods that destroy the GI Tract; Gluten; Dairy.

Why WHEY best alone, in water, not blended - and not with fruits, etc.
