Hi friends,

My son and daughter in law had their first child yesterday, a son. They didn't want to know ahead of time what they were having, so it was a fun surprise.

Her water broke just after midnight early Sunday morning. They went to the hospital soon after.

She was only having mild contractions all night which wasn't helping labor to progress, so in the morning they started a pitocin drip in increasing doses.

By early afternoon she was only 3-4 cm's.

They increased the pitocin again and the contractions became really strong. She did not want to have an epidural but finally agreed to it since the pain was becoming unbearable.

She relaxed then and began to dilate more quickly. Then the baby's heart rate started decelerating with contractions.

The baby's head was also turned posteriorly and needed to turn around.

The Dr started talking about the possibility of a C--section if the baby didn't turn soon.

Her pastor and wife stopped by and one of the hospital's pastors was walking by, so her pastor prayed with all of us (her mom, me, my daughter, the pastor and his wife) in the hallway asking God to be with them and deliver the baby normally with no problems.

When we were done praying, I prayed to myself, asking God to take His hands and place them on the baby, turn him/her around and deliver him/her safely. I was picturing this in my mind.

I kept thanking Him for turning the baby and for keeping mom and baby safe, saying Thank you, Jesus!!

My daughter in law was in every imaginable position trying to get the baby to turn and persevering, even when the Dr suggested a C-section.

Finally delivery was close but still there were decelerations of the baby's heart rate and he suggested a C-section again.

She said No, I'll push harder! So she did...and the head was delivered and the cord was around the baby's neck. The Dr was able to slip the cord over the baby's head and then everything was fine.

The baby was born at 10:56 pm Sunday night, a beautiful big boy, 8 lb 11 oz!

I just wanted to let you know that God hears our cries and He answers. He got that baby turned around, and kept them both safe during all of that.

I am grateful for this beautiful new life, my 3rd grandchild.

Thank you, Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, momindeep and Lymetoo!!

I saw how wonderful my son was with his wife during that 23 hours at the hospital before the baby's birth.

I'm sure he has a new respect for her after watching what she endured.

Today I saw him changing his son's diaper and swaddling him while my daughter in law rested.

That's when you know for sure that he is all grown up....well he will be 30 yrs old on Sat...lol.

I felt proud and wanted to cry at the same time.

Yes, God is sooo good.
