Let's start a resource list of the website you can go to in each state to find your state legislators.

I'll start with California:

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/

Even if you have no Lyme legislation pending in your state right now, it pays to develop a relationship with your state assemblyperson and senator.

If anything comes up, you will already have a relationship, and your legislator will know something about Lyme. S/he will know Lyme is an important issue in your state if more than one person has written to him/her about it.

phyllis, let's NOT forget all the hard work many of us did last aug. 06 and afterwards.

several people have 2007 NAMES shown for their lists; rest of us need to update our lists.

the lists are as they were done; NOT ALPHABETICAL! i did put the list done in A-V order! [Big Grin] [Wink]

Betty, I recall seeing this list before - thanks for reminding me. However we need to update most of the information and to me, those long lists of emails are not really that helpful. I'd rather have a single URL to go to where I type in my zip code and the site tells me who my legislators are. California has such a site and I think it will be much more useful for people, especially if they forget who their representatives are. It will also save space. I wonder if there is a way we can do it in alphabetical order of states to make it easier to find your state.

IOWA = type in your zip code at this link brings up your FEDERAL & STATE senators, house reps

http://www.legis.state.ia.us/FindLeg/

phyllis, once the NEW list is COMPLETELY done, then the old 06 info can be deleted .

MODERATORS could delete entire post since they "featured it as a sticky "; tincup can't even though she originated post!!

right now, it still is handy even if a few names have been replaced; MORE THERE than gone!

in my yahoo; it's only 20 per email; any more, and it's ONE MAILING PER HOUR! so these things need to be taken into consideration .

the breaking up of lists like i/someone else did is a timesaver for those IN THE SAME STATE. why should everyone have to count out 20 - 75 names, and repeat this thru the entire list?

our way speeds things up. [Wink]

MEG, thanks for catching the problem of 2 previous links not working due to long address! i corrected the problem and found this one instead. [Big Grin]

Betty on the other list I suggest a way it could be done that I think will be much easier to do plus much easier to find the info you want. Check it out. However, someone does have to set up the alphabetical list. I could do it, but as you and Tincup were working on it before, you also could do it. I don't know how people want to proceed or if they agree with me.

i do NOT have time to type in all the states! keeping busy sending the newbie links/advise, answering seeking LLMDS, and PMs as a result of them both! [Big Grin]

Meg. I was hoping someone else would take this on, make the decisions and get it finished. I just thought this might be one way to get a handy alphabetical list. I think one list would be better, with both federal and state info listed alphabetically by state.

I don't think we ought to have those huge long lists of all the legislators' emails because many people don't know which one is theirs anyway. We should post the link for each state info and let people copy and paste it into their browser. I'm also willing to be overruled on this if someone thinks it's better the other way.

I really don't have time to do this. I am putting in 18 hour days trying to get the LymeTimes wrapped up - only a month past deadline... Plus I have my 2 year old grandson to take care of most days.

If you want to continue the present list, or start a new one, I will cooperate. Just tell me what to do. I will add Calif. info. and I can delete any posts here I have made that mess up the final list, if you decide to use this one.

Here's hoping you take this one on!

phyllis, i do like your NEW way of doing things as bottom line: THEY LISTEN TO CONSTITUENTS LIVING IN "THEIR ASSIGNED AREA" THEY ARE REPRESENTING!

i hope meg takes on this project! as stated above, i dont have time, and especially with my hip replacement surgery being march 5! i won't be on here the hours i was before. [Wink]

meg, i like the 3 sites you showed. i went to each to see how user-friendly they are.

i'd suggest a few directions in how to find their federal senators/reps be included after the link. we have many who have NEVER been in these links, and it is intimidating.

when i was looking now, even i had some problems locating my own state's info..

the STATE site, 3rd, was OUTSTANDING! i was very impressed by it. [Wink]

Phyllis,

Here is where you can find any federal or state official, plus committees etc. etc. etc. by plugging in your zipcode:

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/

This is the best I have ever seen. It is all updated for the current legislative sessions, and newly elected officials.

This is what I gave people to use when sending a cover letter and Lynne's petition to our federal congresspeople.

I think this would save everyone lots of time and effort.

AGG JUST DELETED MY REPLY HERE!!
Meg are you willing to take this on? You can use the list I started, I will delete. From what Ann says I think we should focus on State Legislators. People can give you info, links, or you can just work on it gradually. You can find info on google or do goodsearch and earn money for CALDA, LDA or ILADS. (only a penny a search but it adds up).

Once we get a clean list I'm sure Jenifer will anchor it for us.

I am leaving Friday for 2 weeks, just finished a Lyme Times special issue on "integrative medicine." Make sure you are a CALDAmember so you get your copy, www.lymetimes.org.
It will be a popular issue.

Meg, let us know if you can take this on. The joy is, there are no deadlines and if you do it, you get all the credit!!!!

Phyllis--Is this OK? Is this what you had in mind--are the links taking us to the right places?

Hopefully, I've posted a general State legislative link with a place to find legislators and bills.

It looks a bit bare, what more could be added?
I'm open to suggestions!

Yo Phyllis..

You said..

"I don't think we ought to have those huge long lists of all the legislators' emails because many people don't know which one is theirs anyway. We should post the link for each state info and let people copy and paste it into their browser. I'm also willing to be overruled on this if someone thinks it's better the other way."

Consider yourself overruled! HA!

[Big Grin]

Actually.. the work on the other list is excellent. BettyG spent a lot of time working on it.. doing a grand job... as did others. At the time it was exactly what was needed. And it is STILL needed!

For example... I need.. as do others.. a long list of ALL the state legislators email addresses.. for different states... because I contact all of them with mailouts as needed. I can't spend time looking for each one.. so the long strings can be copied and pasted in one swoop this way. What a blessing!

But I see we are talking about different situations here... and I think that is where the confusion lies.

Megs list is great if someone wants to ONLY contact their state's person and it makes it very easy to find. Good job Meg, thanks.

So let's keep BOTH lists available and updated as we can. They BOTH help folks.. but in different ways.

And next time.. could we NOT have people request my posts be sticky things. I REALLY don't use ANY of the ones that are up there at all.. it is actually annoying to me that they are all there taking up space.. are outdated, rarely used.. etc... and if I want MY post to be sticky... I'll get it done myself.

THANKS!

so my friend, i have to take issue with this. this will be my last post in this area since i'm scheduled for hip surgery tomorrow, and on top of this, i got the FLU late friday afternoon. [cussing]

Well is that why you are so crabby?

I thought their must be a good reason. HA!

[Big Grin]

I don't mind if others want to stick their stuff where ever.. but sticking others posts places.. without their knowledge.. should be avoided.

That's MY story and I'm sticking to it!

Good luck tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon...

BIG baboon! tincup,

just a friendly reminder that when you started the 50 state list of federal/state senators/house of reps, you disappeared from the lymenet board for 4-6 weeks straight.

i know i tried contacting you my pm and regular email, but got no answers at all .

so tincup, meg and i got together and made major decision about the list and how to do it correctly saving folks many hours of works.

so tincup, i asked that it be made a sticky by lou b or jennifer, so it was there for others to add their state's info.

it's hard to let someone know what has been done when they do NOT ANSWER my emails.

you needed a big time off the board, but this was your brain child and we had no directions of what all you intended to do with it.

BOTH LISTS HAVE THEIR OWN USES; let's keep them both!

that's my story; and i'm sticking to it. yes, i'm very sick and have been since friday night.

Dayle Ann-

why don't you repost this as a NEW thread?

It sure deserves the billing, and i think it got lost here on this much older thread that centered on a specific project.
