Sorry to post in medical but I really need your help everyone. I am in a desperate situation..

Oxford has cut off my IV meds. and is refusing to readminister without the following condotions..

1. a letter from a rheum., infectious disease, or neurol. stating that he agrees with my llmd and I need continued care..

Here's the problem the appointment could take 6 weeks to get and my insurance won't cover and it is 600-1000 bucks..

I am in Conn...Is there anyone with this situatiion? Or with Oxford that had sucess doing this?

Thansk for your help..

You are dealing with the Conn Lyme Law.

Are there any in-network neuros, rheumis or IDs who will write an interim prescription with appropriate oversight/agreement with your PCP? It sounds like that is what you need. My thought is that a neuro might be more helpful because they are used to dealing with diseases that encompass many unkowns.

Also, the federal lyme law specifically states that lyme is a clinical diagnosis. I am not a lawyer, but I would suspect and ask your BIO if the broader law supercedes. That is how the HIPAA medical privacy act works. States have different medical privacy acts, and at the federal level, there is HIPAA. The stronger privacy provision supercedes.

Nannie,

Thanks for your reply..Yes I need that kind of dr. but I do not know one, and I do not want to waist my energy on appointments with neuros. that are either uneducated about lyme or flip floppy about it.

Do you know how I can find one? Anyone else have one out there?

thanks
Daniella

If you get to a point where you feel you need legal intervention on your behalf, and if you cannot afford an attorney, you might contact your local Legal Aid office.

Nannie, I don't understand what you are saying about hippa? I don't get the privacy law thing you are talking about. How does that apply to my situation?

hi Daniella

I'm sorry about your situation, but I may be able to help. When I was living in CT, I had my IV covered for 4 months because it was ordered by my neurologist...she is by no means "LL", but she kept in close contact with my LLMD (Dr P) and respected his opinion. Every case is different though, so I cant promise she can help you. She also only deals with neurological symptoms.

There is also a "LL" neurologist in Norwalk, but I have no personal experience with him or know if he orders IV. And someone else mentioned Dr R in Stamford...hes a neuro-psych dr, so maybe the law would apply to him too.

ohhh...also just thought of 2 more drs who are worth trying as well...

I'll email you ASAP.

Daniella, Have you ask your LLMD to help?It seems to me he could call someone you and he agree on and send your records. He may also even help speed up an appointment if necessary. He may also have had past experience in doing this as it must be state law and required to be done by many doctors in your state.
