This is basically a semi-annual update. For new people, I started treatment in January of 2003. At that time i had no stamina, could barely walk uphill, was diagnosed with asthma and COPD, had vertigo and a continuous headache for nine months. I had about twenty six of teh symptoms on Dr. B's. symptom list.
The first improvement became noticeable at about three months and those improvements were brief, noticing that nothing hurt, or being able to follow conversation better. Over that year I continued to improve.
My infection began in 1991, at the earliest and the prognosis for cure is not good. However, I am keeping it beaten back, have very minor symptoms and, just in the last couple of weeks, have noticed days when I can do two things at once and think through complex problems.
So folks, keep on keeping on. In my case, the cognitive problems seem to be resolving most slowly but it seems to still be happening.

david, what protocol are you on? did you get "worse" before getting better.
i got bit in june 2005 and still am not being treated due to every time they give me antibotics, i get so bad they have to stop them.

Genevive, The first month I pretty much stayed in bed and was pretty miserable. The second was a little better. I continued to have several days in row of very uncomfortable, but not disabling, herxes for about two years. Still have occasional bed days in which I feel fuzzy, achey, dizzy, and withdrawn. The first month I was fortunate to be on winter break. The first summer I rested almost the entire time. My protocol has been Bicllin and Biaxin, throughout.

David, Great news from you this morning; thanks for updating us on your progress!
Genvieve, as I was reading your post, I wondered if maybe you haven't stopped the antibiotics too quickly once you start taking them.
Once I had tested positive and found a LLMD, I was told that this disease would get much worse in me before it started to get better. At that point, I mostly had physiological problems -- swollen and aching joints, numbness. Plus exhaustion.
When I started taking abx, though, everything got much much worse. I didn't spend that entire month in bed, but things weren't good at all, and during my first antibiotic herxheimer reaction (herx), I ended up in the ER. That's especially severe and certainly doesn't happen with everyone.
Anyway, I stayed the course. The second month was still horrible, really awful, but it wasn't quite as bad as the month before.
Basically, each month has gotten a little tiny bit better. It hasn't been speedy progress by any means, nor am I completely healed. But I can now imagine a time when I might be well.
I was bitten in 1996 (had the bullseye rash) but the Lyme wasn't diagnosed until last June.
I'm wondering if you're seeing a LLMD and, if now, whether that would be possible. This is a complicated disease, and for me, having a knowledgable doctor (specifically about Lyme disease) who has gotten me on an individual treatment program has made all the difference.

Great news! We just have to keep chipping away at it. Are you using Biaxin XL or regular immediate release? If you take the XL, are you taking both tabs at the same time like Abbott labs says to? It seems that a lot of Dr's tell their patients to take them just like the immediate release, but it's performance is based on both tabs together in a once a day dosing.
