I posted here some hours ago as a newbie & it must have gone somewhere as I had a private reply, but I have no idea where it is. I thought Medical Questions was the place to post about medical issues but is there somewhere else?
I had a local hospital test for Lyme's turn out positive & I suppose that is significant since so many of those tests show false negatives. But a second test,a Western blot done at the Mayo Clinic, came out 2, which is sort of in limbo. My problem is that I am a hopefully recovering Cdiff sufferer (Clostridium difficile) & antibiotics are to be avoided if at all possible for those who have or had cdiff. But I guess I will have to bite the bullet & do it & hope that I don't have a relapse. After 8 months & losing 30 pounds in 2 months, I don't know what is worse, Cdiff or Lyme's.
I hope this shows up somewhere where I can find it & if I am posting in the wrong place, will someone please tell me & tell me where I SHOULD be posting.

You may have to treat the C Diff and Lyme concurrently. The other option might be to talk with your doctor about IV antibiotics which *may* have less impact on C Diff as they are not taken orally. The other option would be to consider an herbal program for the Lyme like that outlined in Stephen Buhner's Healing Lyme book - that can be very powerful.

I know I have to treat them together. Doxycycline fortunately is not a prime Cdiff offender, it's middle of the road. But I will still have to get back on a regular course of Vancomycin while taking the Doxy.
Would an IV antibiotic be shorter term?
And how does one find a Lyme specialist?

"Timaca" on here has lots of experience with lyme and c. diff -- hunt her up and PM her if she doesn't see this.
Please do post in "seeking a doctor" -- there's a reasonable chance your present doctors will decide that your positive ELISA was a "false positive" because the subsequent western blot wasn't clearly positive.
THEIR labs don't even bother testing for two of the most specific bands for lyme -- bands 31 and 34. So don't bother with any more testing with them. Also, they are usually clueless about co-infections. Those must be treated, and sometimes with entirely different drugs.
A good LLMD will find a way to guide you through the process.

Another advantage of TZ compared to MZ is its higher accumulation in the cerebrospinal fluid . Dual medication with TZ and a macrolide (clarithromycin, azithromycin or the new ketolide telithromycin) might be an interesting approach to treat borrelioses, and to prevent persistent infections.

You should find a llmd to treat the lyme -
Alot of drs dont understand lyme or dont want to treat us until we are well...
because of IDSA guidelines alot of drs say a max of about a month of abx and thats it no matter how the patient is doing.
