Hi all, I am on Doxy and got the dreaded ice-prick, tingling sensation on my arms, hands and feet right now from very limited sun exposure.
(I had a booth at a craft show today in 85 degree weather, avoided the sun under our tent but I guess walking to the bathroom and the heat etc... got me)
Anyhoo, my question is this - If you've experienced this, how long does it normally take to go away?
And more importantly, will taking my evening dose of Doxy make it worse? I'm afraid to interrupt treatment because I'm doing so well. No rash btw, otherwise, my normal crappy Lyme symptoms tia,

Neutrogena SPF70, with repeated applications, was the only sunscreen I found helpful.
I don't think stopping the ABX will make a difference. It's the exposure that causes the problem.
Keep your nailbeds protected too. I blistered underneath my nails before I realized it could get me there.
You are not safe through glass either because both UVA & UVB can cause a reaction.

Taking my meds did not seem to have any effect. For me the prickly sensation lasted overnight and became more like a painful sunburn the next day although I feel like it is different from a sunburn. It seems more like a chemical burn. For me, aloe and Vit C & E lotion helped it feel better after the first day. I used ice packs on it the first day - felt like my hands were on fire !

Taking additional doxy will not make things worse.
Being under a tent is not enough to protect you from the sun.
I suggest you wear gloves on your hands, long sleeves, and socks on your feet ANY time you go outside for the next month. That includes while driving.
It can take a month for a bad burn to go away. But, it won't be as bad as the first few days. However, I even had to avoid sitting under our skylight since the sun coming through the skylight reactivated the burn for at least two weeks.
I have not found any sunscreen to be effective when taking doxy. You just have to stay covered up.
Just be sure not to get burned anymore.

In fact, I have a terrible time where they drop to the floor, and 1 of bows will break off the connecting PLASTIC piece connecting to the lense itself. They just take the info over the phone from YOUR STATE'S REP!
I don't drive often at night, but I can wear NOIR's 901 lenses at night while driving; it creates soft candle lights coming at me...tolerable. NOT to wear in town with all the action of people crossing where they shouldn't be.
Driving daylight hours, be sure to wear DRIVING GLOVES and a LONG SLEEVE SHIRT/JACKET so you will NOT SUNBURN ! I got burnt bad on my 1st out of state trip to new LLMD in Minn.

EVE PROBLEMS ...NOT ABLE TO SEE; Tincup, 7.20.09 I had inflammation and eye problems from Lyme... from which I was declared to be legally blind due to the damage caused. May I suggest?
Rather than waiting to do steroids for the inflammation from uveitis, etc... and ONLY because you can't find anyone right now...
This is what I did which worked VERY well for me... recommended by one of my docs.
Vitamin C
Wobenzyme- 3 per day
Querectin- as directed on bottle- max dose
Bromelain- as directed on bottle- max dose
Vitamin E- max dose recommended on bottle. ``````````````````````````````````````````````` I know.. that sounds too simple.. but it has wordked for me and others.
These supplements have anti-inflammatory properties and I was actually found to do better on them than the steroid drops they prescribed .. [doc thought I was doing the eye steroid drops when rechecking me several times].
My eyes cleared up faster than they would have on the steroid drops. I think I took this combo for about 6 weeks.

There is also something that is called "Scheerer's phenomenon" or "blue field entoptic phenomenon". This is basically the ability to see white blood cells traveling through in the squiggly capillaries of your retinas... especially when looking at a blue light. (like the sky) When a leukocyte travels through.. it makes a wiggling motion. The link below is v\ery interesting and even has an impression of this phenomenon. "Scheerer's phenomenon"
Eye pressure up to 29 may be normal. Not a very good test for glaucoma. Better to look for dammage to optic nerve (visual nerve) with dilated exam. When in doubt, a threshold visual field test (painless but boring) can be done to detect early glaucoma.
Other reliable tests that can help pick up glaucoma include corneal pachymetry and gonioscopy.
I agree that optic neuritis is a much greater concern with Lyme than glaucoma, but of course the possibility of glaucoma still exists in everyone.
If you're quite concerned about glaucoma, easiest way to rule it out would be the visual field route. Maybe ask a glaucoma specialist for a second opinion.
NOISE/SOUNDS .... MAGNESIUM by Carol in PA, 7.3.09 Supplement with magnesium to help hypersensitive hearing.
The Lyme bacteria use up our magnesium, causing a deficiency. A number of Lyme symptoms can be helped by supplementing with magnesium.

My ice-prickle lasted 2 weeks and looked like it wasn't going away on its own.
So I finally gave in and went to a dermatologist who gave me a topical ointment that helped a great deal.
And to boot, she was very understanding of my lyme situation and told me that normally she would prescribe a steroid for the swelling and redness, but since I had lyme, she suggested I do the topical ointment instead.

I had to go to the dermatologist too. It took me about a week to realize that the rash I had was from the little bit of sun I got while driving.
So, it took a month for mine to go away. It was HORRIBLE!!! The derm gave me a topical ointment too. It really helped.

It should go away in a few days to a week. That ice-prickle is so annoying! Stay OUT of the sun totally folks.

Thanks everyone, maybe I panicked a little last night because I've never had this (I was aware of it, but it has never happened to me), today it was much better, almost gone in fact.
Man did it wipe me out last night... I felt like a truck ran over me and then someone was jabbing icicles all over my skin! I'm still unusually tired...
