When I first saw a doc in US he noticed a heart murmur. Send me to do ultrasound scan, said results came out "normal".

Later ( a few years ago) I had EKG showing "left anterior fascicular block" . And QTc on it is 435 (which is within range but borderline)

I heard lyme can give heart complications and If I am right that I had for 15 years or so (based on joint pain and bells palsy) then it seems for me it likely to affect heart as well. Those are all kind of "normal abnormalities" a standard PCP will dismiss for a young athletic guy (which I was at the time) , and so did I then as well

Anyone else have cardiac abnormalities and/or problems ? Did they go away with treatment?

It doesnt really bother me much except my LLMD want EKG before RX'ing macrolides/biaxin .I frankly dont care about heart attacks at this point - so it doesnt phase me one bit, for the exception that I would have to pay out of pocket for things she wont prescribe

But I am curious about the subject

I have a heart murmur that supposedly I was born with. There were years inbetween that NO DOCTOR ever mentioned it though!!

I now have A-fib .. an arrythmia problem which often leads to a pacemaker. You should know that I am 58 yrs old now and have had Lyme for about 50 yrs.

My problems did not go away with treatment. Otherwise, I was successfully treated.

PS... maybe was not clear that I still have MVP .. the heart murmur and it involves regurgitation.

PSPS .. I cannot take Avelox, Cipro or Biaxin now due to my heart. Makes it go crazy.

I think that I had a slight murmur a while back but because I too was athletic and in otherwise good shape it was never considered a big deal.

Heart pain/aches were a first symptom of mine but have since went away. Echo tests never revealed anything outside of normal.

It is known though that 'chetes can get in and around the heart and cause all kinds of strange heart phenomena...

My heart symptoms were typically worse when in bed.

I could run three miles and not die but somehow when I tried to rest I'd notice things. And these pains were definitely not gastro in origin.

All seems OK now though..knock on fake wood...

Coltman,

I posted a similar topic about 6 weeks ago. Check out the responses and see if it adds info. Let me know if you think you can establish a link.

This where your extensive capacity for research can be very useful! (I'm NOT being sarcastic)

I have a Murmur and Mitral Valve Prolapse.

You got to make sure you Dentist knows because they will want to give you Abx before some procedures..

And.. Most Internists will be able to diagnose and tell you what you have when some other doctors can not even tell you have the problem.

Its amazing. If an interist listens to my heart they can hear the murmur but other doctors will say they cant. I think it is all in the training.

I think we all should have a good internist in our group of doctors. ... we see..

it has been invaluable to me and they also are very througough and want to really find out the root of problems and will run a ton of tests.

Overboard even.

I admit I was supposed to go back for tests every two years and have not. I have felt that when i get better I hope that it will resolve itself. i have heard that MVP can heal themselves.

But since it has been so long i should get an appointment soon..

I think if you have weight issues it is more of a concern too.. The stressof it all can add up to put a toll on your heart..

My son was diagnosed with Lyme in September after getting tested by his Rheumatologist. During his follow-up 1 month later the doctor heard a heart murmur. He was so concerned he made an appt for the cardio the next morning.

That dr did an echo and said my son had moderate mitral valve regurgitation from what he suspected was Rheumatic Fever. He figures my son had both Lyme and RF because he said Lyme attacks the heart muscle, not valves.

I dont know when my boy would have gotten Rheumatic Fever. He was checked for strep in August which came back negative and started taking amoxicillin a few days after that for a sinus infection and has been on antibiotics ever since.
