Daughter took Mino and Rifampin for about 10 months and improved. Not 100% but maybe 75-80%.

Dr stopped Rifampin and started Cipro.Hoping to make more progress.

Well, anxiety increased and many other weird feelings. Well after many phone calls the Dr. had us stop the Cipro.

She cannot take Zith, Cipro, already took Rifampin.

Cannot tolerate Doxy , can only tolerate 50mg 1x a day of Mino.

She seems to be sens. to many meds. Even Claritin, Melatonin, etc.

I have to call back end of the week. Just wondering what other Drugs people have used to treat Bart when unable to tolerate others.

It's not looking too good, any input is appreciated.

Although they are in the same class of meds either levaquin or factive may be options. Or some people seem to think that bactrim DS works.

The combo that finally seems to be working for hubby is Mino, Zith, Factive and Rifampin. He is also taking some new herbs which seem to be doing something -- pau d'arco and arnica.

Personally I think there are some strains of bart or mycoplasma that require a combo of both rifampin and a fluroquinolone.

Her Dr. will not do Levaquin.


Hope your Hubby does well on his current combo.

Anyone else, Had more improvements on one more than another?

I have to agree with Bea. Since your daughter is taking Cipro, there aren't a lot of medications for Bartonella.

Levaquin is in the same family as Cipro but you say your doctor won't use that one anyway.

Something I found that worked for me is that if you stick with the Rifampin but mix it with other meds, it seems to have different effects. Perhaps you could play around with combinations with the Rifampin that you do know she tolerates.

My now famous lyme doc says Bactrim DS kills bart.

Bactrim is a sulfa drug, and many people are allergic to sulfa drugs.
I couldn't take Bactrim, and I am sensitive to alot of meds like your daughter.
Perhaps if your doctor wants to try this one, have him only order two or three day's worth.
You'll know by then if she can tolerate it.

Well. looks like the replacement will be Bactrim.

Hopefully she will be able to tolerate this antibiotic.
