My WBC is 2.8 and my cd 57 is 22. My WBC went very low on Bactrim and I had to go off it. This was at the end of August.

Orals have not seemed to help me. Been off of them for 2 months. I am wondering if IV is a big risk considering I dont have many defenses against infection right now.

This is not a good question to post at LymeNet because your situation deserves the care of a very experienced LLMD.

Ordinarily, the rule of thumb is to stop all antibiotics anytime that the WBC is as low as yours is, but if your low WBC stems from either rickettsia or Erhlichia, then you need to trust the judgement of your LLMD to know how best to proceed.

It would be risky for you to seek advice about such a serious problem from other patients.

If you want more detailed answers, then I urge you to purchase a copy of the CDs from the recent ILADS 2010 conf. They are a bargain at just $40, and it is a great way to support ILADS and to get something in return for your money.

http://www.ilads.org/store/store_lyme_dvd2010.html

The talk given in the plenary session by Dr. H. covers the answer to your question. That set of slides alone is well worth the $40 price for the entire set of slides, and you will have the advantage of knowing that you are receiving the best professional recommendations.

My WBC was 2.7 and I didn't quit my abx of biaxin and malarone and artemisia. I started accupuncture because I was afraid of not being able to fight off infections and it worked alot!

My WBC went from 2.7 to 4.5 in one month - which is the highest its been in 4 years.

My LLMD never said anything except that my wbc was low but he was pleased that I was doing the accupuncture - but we kept on going and never stopped treatment.

Good luck!
