By far the best I've felt so far is when I was on meds and took a yeast free sugar free diet strictly serious- Maybe it was coincidence of timing, but I've never felt like that before. I may go back on that diet, but it was extremely difficult, and I'm curious if anyone here really understands the specifics of why that diet is recommended?
Is yeast feeding the spirochetes or something or is it just to prevent overgrowth from antibiotics?
While I'm at it, what's the deal with wheat? Am I correct that it's not harmful of itself but feeds yeast?
Any advice is welcome!
Thanks

My lyme doc says that eliminating sugar and starches (anything made from flour, all grains, fruit, cereal, pasta, etc.) and eliminating alcohol and caffeine will make a person feel 30 to 40% better.
I think there are a few reasons why this is true.
Wheat does feed yeast. Yeast symptoms are very, very similar to lyme symptoms. So, if the diet gets rid of your yeast, you feel much better and many symptoms are gone.
Besides, many, many people with lyme disease become gluten intolerant, so they absolutely need to avoid wheat and all other sources of gluten.
This may not be a true celiac disease, but it behaves the same way, evidently. It will make you really sick.
One person I know got terrible lyme neurological symptoms every time she ate. This may have been due to gluten intolerance. There was a very recent post about this, maybe yesterday.
Besides feeding yeast, Prof Garth Nicholson says "simple or refined sugars ... can suppress your immune system."

I have been doing better since going gluten free, dairy free, and mostly sugar free. The little sugar I do get is from low glycemic fruit like apples.
My understanding is all 3 of them are hard on any person. But if you have compromised health then they can be much worse. My llmd says that all 3 of those will increase inflammation.
Sugar does increase the chances of getting candida or if you already have it getting rid of it.
Its hard to eat this way but it has made such a difference for me that I make it work. After 8 months it is getting much easier.
A book that really helped me was "If its not food don't eat it."

Does anyone know if there's a way to know for sure if you have a yeast problem or gluten intolerance?
When I first did the diet I assumed it only worked if you were absolutely strict with it as I thought it had something to do with feeding lyme bacteria- This is totally wrong right? If so, is it just about limiting them as much as possible? That would be easier...
