Forgive me as I may have asked this question before.

This one symptom makes me feel like I have brain damage. When it eases up, I almost feel normal in many ways.

When I walk or drive, I don't feel it so much, but when I'm sitting or just standing still, it comes on so strong.

Appreciate any input on this one as I have to go after whatever infection is causing this...

Gary

Gary,
That is my worst symptom. I have a feeling that bartonella is causing this for me because it has gotten worse since I've been treating it and nearly all of my other symptoms are bart also.

I have been on Rifampin and Bactrim for almost 4 months and it hasn't eased up yet.

I'm thinking about asking my doctor to add Levaquin also. Anybody else have thoughts about this? If I could get rid of this one symptom it would be so wonderful!

My "boat feeling" has been constant for about a year and a half now. I would give anything to have one normal day...

I have it too to a degree. I fully agree Babesia. My short dose of Coartem made me feel so much better 10 days after being off the meds, but it didn't last long. I learned what not having head sensations was like. I dream of a day it's not there. It does feel like brain damage.

I don't have Babesia or Bartonella and I have that symptom. I was recently on a cruise ship that was rocking pretty good one evening. I told my husband that this is how I can feel often...that off balance feeling....a feeling of being disconnected from my body.

I have Coxsackie B, HHV-6 and Cpn.

Best, Timaca

This is my major symptom, and it hasn't been touched with Lyme treatment (including IV meds) or Bart treatment (mostly Rifampin with short course of Levaquin). I am starting to think it's Babesia.

If I could drive all day I'm pretty sure I would feel normal since it's the only time it really relents.

--------------------
Lyme, Bart, possible Babs
Currently on IV Doxy, Bactrim, Zithromax, Nystatin, Mepron
Been on nearly every antibiotic since 10/09

About 60% improvement. Dizziness, air hunger remain.

I'm sure that it could be caused by a few of the infections. When I took Factive (a fluoroquinolone, which is supposed to be great for Bart and also Lyme), that symptom and many other neurological symptoms went away like magic!! But I got horrible side-effects from it though. Sigh.

So I think Bart, but I'm sure Babs, too, and maybe Lyme.

If you can tolerate a fluoroquinolone, like Factive or Levaquin, that may help a lot. But watch out for the possible side-effects, which can be bad!

I believe it can be either lyme, Babs, or Bart.

I had this too for 4 months. My ENT believed I had labyrinthitis. This is a swelling of the inner ear due to infection.

I had all the "labs" symptoms.

Later, when I found out I had lyme, I learned lyme & co can CAUSE labs.

So you may want to google labs symptoms. There is a good site from the UK. (www labyrinthitis.uk.org I believe) that has a good description of symptoms.

Not sure what helped my labs but it is pretty much gone today. It can take months to get rid of, even after the bacteria is gone.

Everything I read Babesiosis. But you know Bart can cause the ringing ears. So damage to the vestibulocochlear nerve might cause this sensation. Who knows. I have it also.

I am spacey all the time - the walking off the mountain into the clouds thing - It began with ataxia which is like being a drunk sailor, staggering from side to side as i walk. I have fallen into walls when it was real bad.

When I treated lyme and bart this symptoms would come out more, not less. I don't think the symptoms coming out so strong was herxing because it would get worse and worse. When things did not improve I would quit the abx believing it was a side effect - most of the drugs I have used can cause dizziness.

Now I am beginning to believe it is babesia because of the spaciness that goes with it, and the depression and air hunger I have been getting.

I agree that it could be any infection. My motion feeling is sort of like a throbbing feeling, which I think may be a mild encephalitis (swelling in the brain) that could be caused by any infection.

I'm hoping that once I get my bartonella infection under control, this will begin to subside.

I have yet to try a floroq. but I hope this helps, as Rifampin and Bactrim haven't been doing much for me except stirring everything up.

Lyme and babesia are most known for messing up the ears but ANY of the tick-borne or other chronic stealth infections can cause this. And it may not be from infection. It could be a side-effect or ototoxic reaction to a drug or the overall toxcity load.
Allergies, chemical sensitivities can also cause this.

This thread describes the rocking boat condition better than anything I've seen. This is now my only remaining symptom.

Yes, Linnada, that's how I'd describe it; throbbing. I started having this condition after spinal surgery 18 years ago. It lasted for a few months, and then went away.

It came and went over the next years, lasting for months at a time. I went through a period where it was positional in its onset. For that reason an ENT physician and a neurologist considered a diagnosis of Menier's syndrome. The doctors were never quite able to put all the pieces together to categorically say that it was Menier's.

Positional vertigo seemed to fit because inverting my head was what would bring it on. I had to be careful not to invert my head. But it was never quite vertigo although it could be very severe. It limited personal relationships because it seemed to digitize my sensory experience.

Other times it wasn't postional. Always, it would come on for weeks or more often months.

I feel like I am cured of of Babs. I haven't had the air-hunger and a lot of the other symptoms I associated with Babs since early 2009, after finishing 7 months of Mepron and Azith.

I'm noy sure what to associate it with. I have strongly identified a lot of my symptoms with Bart.

Other than the throbbing, do any of you folks who have this rocking boat phenomenon also have any eye issues? I've had a lot of eyeball pain, watery eye, blurriness that would come and go, almost always in my left eye.

This boat rocking is currently my only symptom and is not particularly severe. I'm actually considering asking my LLMD to take me off abx, and it was something my doc suggested during my last office visit. I am concerned though about this buzzing, throbbing, rocking feeling, and the wisdom of stopping treatment while I still have it.

My doc told me nothing was wrong with my blood when I presented with this symptom....

Except vitamin D deficiency.

You would think they would have been able to see if something was in the blood like babs....

Guess no one ever looks anymore...

I have experienced this symptom for yrs and it is almost gone. I have tried to be observant of what could be causing this.

I find it happens to me when I experience Gastroperesis. (Slow emptying of the small intestine.)It causes everything to be off balance.
