I've had suspicion a lot of my neuro problems are due to Candida, but I really do not have any GI symptoms- no diahrea, no stomach issues.

Does that matter? If the candida was that where it was effecting me neurologically would it likely be causing me GI problems too?

My son had sudden onset of neuro symptoms and our doctor said it was bartonella doing its work. It came on after a virus. It is starting to get better. He started treatment in June.
I imagine it gets tricky to tell what is Candida, coinfections or Lyme.

Things are never dull. After 3 fighting Lyme, 2 are in remission. Youngest is still sick, age 22. He has new diagnosed Chiari Malformation and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Try an antifungal? If there's candida in your brain, you'd feel the die-off! I think only certain antifungal meds cross the blood-brain barrier...not sure which ones though.

I've been prescribed a week of Diflucan, but still have 2 weeks left of my IV Rocephin treatment (which hasn't helped at all).

I'm deciding now if it's a better idea to start the diflucan right away or just wait until the IV Rocephin treatment is over and take the Diflucan then.

Hmmm... that's kind of a toss up. I think I'd wait until the IV is finished. Then you can really tell what reaction you have.

What's the dosage?

100 mg/day for a week, could Candida really be causing neurological problems with the absence of any GI problems?

I've seen that most with bad yeast issues have diahrea and stomach issues, which makes sense. I do not have any.

i've always been told that candida and lyme symptoms are really very much alike.

Is it unlikely to have a bad candida problem if you have no GI issues?

Boy... I really don't know. You usually will have some GI problems.. but maybe that is not set in stone?

Not necessarily diarrhea, but usually some bloating... but you may not think it to be anything unusual maybe?

I used to have a link on the comparison between lyme and yeast symptoms. I think it's no longer working.

Did you see this one?

I think this is an excellent question and one I am struggling with myself....trying to figure out what is lyme + coinfections vs candida.

My argument has been that my mouth and lady parts have had very little issue, while I have a lot of neuro symptoms. So that seems like lyme. But, I herx on diflucan (although many people do and say it helps bust cysts).

I also do not have major GI issues, but I am bloated a lot. So I wish I could answer your question, but I am in a similar boat.

I have also been on IV rocephin now for 7+ months and it took at least 6 months for me to really see a difference and stop going downhill.

Good luck- this is hard stuff to figure out.

mbdq said,

"I also do not have major GI issues, but I am bloated a lot."

THAT is the main "GI" problem with yeast. It's like a HUGE red flag.

Also bball, for some, it takes more time on antibiotics to get better. Or maybe a different antibiotic.

--------------------
Lyme, Bart, possible Babs
Currently on IV Doxy, Bactrim, Zithromax, Nystatin, Mepron
Been on nearly every antibiotic since 10/09

About 60% improvement. Dizziness, air hunger remain.
