i have thyroid problem too and i still assume lyme to be a part of my problem. im still not sure.
my FT3 levels are always low. since i was diagnosed with hashimoto, i took the T4. since i took T4 i suffered from weight&muscle loss.
now after 5 years of T4, im very skinny and i have underweight. i went from normal to that...from 2006 to 2008 i tried thybon (T3) but it didn't help so much, my T3 levels were still low. i also tried armour but it didn't help.
i know that the adrenals play a role, but for me it failed to take cortisol (prednisolon). i felt horrible! but in the urine test i had low cortisol...
what would you suggest? this all seems so strange to me

T4 is converted to T3 at the cellular level..T3 is biologically active and is necessary for proper thyroid function. Some people have lost the ability to make this T4 to T3 conversion.
I am hypothyroid and do not convert T4 to T3. I feel best on only T3 supplementation. I have tried Armour thyroid (contains both T3 & T4) but did not do as well on it.
This might be your problem as well. If your free T3 levels are low while you are taking T4, it seems logical that you are not making the T4 to T3 conversion.
Would your doctor be open to giving you a trial of only T3 and see if you feel better on that?
Good luck!

You mean that i only substitue T3? Thats hard. My thyroid is really small and i have hashimoto.
I once stopped the T4 hormones for a few day but only after a short time, i had panic attacks and i could not sleep. So it seems like, the T4 is also needed?
Do you have Lyme too?
