Hi I posted a few weeks ago, suspicious I had lyme and not psoriatic arthritis as the first rheum I saw thought.
Went to a more competent LLMD after my western blot came back negative. Took a c6 pep? test and came back positive for bartonella.
She has prescribed me Cipro. I'm scared because I'm home with my 16 month old...what if I have some awful reaction to this treatment? Has anyone else had experience with this drug good or bad?
Also after 4 weeks on this they will test for Lyme again. Is it typical that if you have Bart you have lyme too?

Hi! I am new to all of this too, but wanted to say I am right where you are. I was just prescribed minocycline for Lyme and Levaquin for Bartonella. I started on the mino, but am scared to take the Levaquin after I got home and did a little bit of research. I too have a young child and was freaked out by the large number of reports regarding this class of meds (Cipro included) and their adverse reactions.
I will be watching with you to see what those with more experience have to offer.

I have been on cipro two different times.
The first time (for 4 or 8 weeks, can't remember), I noticed nothing. I was pretty sick back then just hanging on the couch.
The second time it caused great brain fog and head pressure for me so it was certainly hitting something.
I was only on for 4 weeks that time as it was too difficult for me. Head stuff is the worst!
My husband was on Levaquin for 4 weeks and the only change was that he became very fatigued. In fact, he was abnormally fatigued for about 4 months after that.
Neither of us ever experienced any of the tendon warnings they give on those drugs.

I have been taking it for a week, no extreme side effects, but I get dizzy, and also a daily flu like feeling. hands and feet still cold all the time. Anxiety is same as it was before, which is bad. I wonder if the drugs is doing anything at all.

I had some concern over the cipro so I switched over to biaxin/clarithromycin to start. Has anyone cleared on this? I hope it works - but does anyone clear Bartonella after the first round of mess? I mean what are the chances (esecially IGG).
Also the dr said to not eat any sugar. I guess the bacteria feeds off it is that right? But is it ok to eat things like bread, unsweetened applesauce, regular fruit, pretzels??? Is it all carbs or just refined sugar?

Dr. B's guidelines say no flour or sugar. I still eat fruit, but I stay away from the high sugar ones. eating a lot of vegetables helps. The diet is more inconvenient, but I have felt much healthier since sticking to it.

I took 1 dose of levaquin (IV) and then had a seizure, lost hearing in one ear and had a horrible jackhammer noise in my head for days! In addition, non-stop crying and severe all over bone pain. My hearing is back. I'm not sure if it was hitting bart hard of if it was caused by negative side effects, but I am too afraid to try that drug again...esp. after reading all the horror stories online.
