This comes from a reputable source. One of Dr F's own patients. ... The doctor has said he found out that fats of all kinds make the bug worse and has now put his patients on this diet by Dr. McDougall http://www.drmcdougall.com/free.html. His comment was that he has not seen any meds do as well as this diet has as far as showing improvement in symptoms. He said some people flair at first and those with more fat on their bodies not as badly."
I myself am starting as now as i also am postive. Please keep me posted and let me know how you do.
First major question -- which Fry bug are we talking about -- the haemoplasma (bartonella like organism) or the protozoa (babesia like organism)?????
Have to agree with LymeToo -- neuro lyme patients need increased levels of good fats to help their brain and nerves and gallbladder function. Would be very very nervous about decreasing fats in hubby's diet. He takes supplemental fish oil and also 1 tablespoon of olive oil 2 times daily plus 2 tablespoons of lecithin 2 times daily.
If you are talking about the bartonella like organism -- hubby decreased the levels of this bacteria from many or numerous (different descriptions from Clongen and F lab) to a 5 % infection rate (1 in 20 fields infection rate per Clongen) with a combo of Rifampin and Factive for at least 6 months. I don't think Dr F uses either of those meds -- and if he is not using Levaquin or Factive and/or Rifampin then his conclusion is not being based on the meds which are considered by most LLMD's the best treatment options for bart or BLO.
If you are talking about the babesia like organism -- then that is a whole different story.

capebite, I don't know anything about this bug but I do follow the McDougall diet so I can testify to its health benefits. My husband and I have followed this plan for about 8 years. My illness started about 3 years ago.
The diet is starch-based, but that means whole foods like brown rice, beans, vegetables and some fruit. NO processed foods. Natural fats are found in whole foods, like avocados, nuts, seeds, flaxmeal. There are different levels of the plan--the stricter level avoids fruit altogether and NO sugar.
I have been taking antibiotics for eight months and have had no yeast problems (my doctor prescribes nystatin along with the abx).
I am happy to assist if you have any questions about the program.

Bea-this is interesting. I got to remission on rifampin and bactrim. I think I may have this fry bug(not sure which one though). Took them for two months. Relapsed after 6 weeks off.
I wonder if your hubby and I are infected with the same bug?

There are so many things we are told to avoid eating for various reasons, that if we did it all, there would be nothing at all to eat.
