Hi everyone - so I am starting clarithromycin to treat bart. My dr is putting me on for a month, then a one week reprieve before doing another bart and lyme test..

From what I've read here my dr is correct in treating the coinfection first....but it sounds like what I'm on will most likely be ineffective and most people are on several drugs at once.

My symptoms arose within the year so I'm assuming that's why the "easy" treatment...easy first then more aggressive? But if most people end up on multiple treatments why even bother with a conservative approach?

Has anyone here cleared their bart with JUST clarithromycin?

Also my lyme came back negative 2x...but the bart is probably masking it right? Is it possible to have only bart? Seems unlikely based on what I've read here...

Usually Rifampin or Levaquin are used for bart.

I used Biaxin for Lyme, but I was taking other meds with it to reach the other forms. Are you seeing an LLMD?

bbb2009, I am being treated with only clindamycin for 1 month take a break then start doxy for 3 months I also take supplements and probotics.

I do not have a LLMD for now so having to trust my doctor. I feel like I am not being treated as I should be and not sure what to do.

For now I feel I have no other choice. What mg are you on and how often?

I now have a cold, sinus etc. You would think with antibiotics I wouldn't have this.. Oh, well I feel doomed if I do and doomed if I don't..

God Bless,

I was give Clarithromycin and metronidazole(Flagyl) for Bart.. I tried them for a week and stopped. Not sure if it will be effective, but I can't deal with the herx right now, I have way to much going on with other issues.

Will start again, when things settle down.

I have heard of one lady that had success treating her bart with this combination.

I'm not too worried about that. I was on Flagyl that first week and introduced the Clarithromycin for only 1 day. I have taken Flagyl many times over the years for other reasons without any problem.

I'm on Biaxin and Bactrim together plus a flagyl pulse, to hit bart and Lyme. But I know my LLMD wouldn't have prescribed just one of them.

She wanted me on levaquin but word to the uninsured...it's almost $500/month supply. So that was out! LOL.

So far I'm still herxing but am feeling a bit better.

thanks everyone for your input (taking 1000 of clarthromycin per day).
So far I feel no different...but only one week in.

But I'm assuming since everything else in my bloodwork looked good she's taking a conservative approach. Not looking forward to the next round of abx if it comes to that.

What a horrible way to start the holiday season..

Lpkayak, tell me you mean Clindamycin, not Clarithromycin (Biaxin). Biaxin doesn't treat Babesia.

jlcd1, that's an appropriate Babesia Tx combo. Note, Lykayak did not state an anti-malarial with the Quinine.
