Treating the infections with abx is the only thing that has helped me. I am treating babesia now with mepron and not as depressed as I was a month ago.

I have used St. John's Wort which was helpful. SAM-e is supposed to help with depression. It didn't help me but maybe I gave up too soon. Whatever helps the brain may help with it such as Acetyl L Carnitine and fish oil.

But I could take 30 supplements a day and stay in a miserable mental place until I addressed the infections taking center stage in my life. For me, as soon as I beat one down, another one takes over. If it is depression you have, maybe babesia is causing it. I hope you can find something to help you.

Getting my Magnesium intake close to 2,000 mg/day got me off my Zoloft.

It was a miracle.

I've tried St. John's Wort, SAM-e, 5-HTP, Lithium orotate. Nothing worked like the Mag.

And treating the infections.

I did.

I treated the infection and went on Dr B's supplements.

And trust me I had deep deep depression (suicidal in my darkest Lyme days - before I was diagnosed)

PS: I don't necessarily recommend St Johns Wort for this - however St Johns is great for nerve damage.

I think St Johns wort IS good for this. But it causes sun-sensitivity, so you'd especially not want to combine it with an abx that also causes sun-sensitiviy, for example, doxycycline.
I find gingko helpful for mild "mood-elevation". But you might want to avoid gingko if you are on a blood thinner, too.
With lyme, though, sometimes it is worth testing combinations-- just be careful and watchful. Let your doc know what you are doing, if he/she is Lyme-literate.

When I removed major dental toxins including root canals, depression ceased and never returned. That was more than ten years ago.

I still had to work on Lyme and co-infections, and even though I was semi-paralyzed, depression never surfaced again.

Detoxing metals, chemicals, pesticides, etc. and reducing the pathogen load mostly with non-pharmaceuticals got me well. Followed mostly Dr. K.'s protocols, many of which
are much more elaborate today than they were ten years ago, but they worked in their simplicity.
Today I would do the cocktails as written up in several of the protocols I have posted.

Take care.

You can get tested for heavy metals like lead and mercury to see if they are a problem. I have a mouth full of silver fillings and I don't think it would be possible to remove them all. I am waiting results for my tests and hopefully I am not one of those people affected by the mercury. But it was just on the news last night that the FDA is putting a warning on them. A lot of people are really sick because of them and once they are removed they recover.

My depression seems to be lifting with my current treatment. I tried a few Antidepressants and had NO luck at all.

Now I'm hitting Babs, or so it seems from the Herx's I'm having, but my mood has done a 180 or should I say at 150 :-)
