I breath very shallow due to the pain in ribs and chest then I gasp or take a very deep involuntary breath every few minutes... Is this what everyone is calling air hunger?

Air hunger is when you're taking a breath and can't get what feels like a full breath.

so it's a normal breath just with the feeling of a lack of air..

I just breath so shallow I finally have to take a huge breath ever few minutes, almost like clock work..

I had a sleep study and the tech said she had never seen anyone breath so shallow while sleeping too....

Thanks for your reply

I actually had breathing tests done when this happened to me because my sister has asthma. I was hyperventilating, so I was getting enough air, I just didn't feel like it was enough.

My air hunger feels like I need to yawn but can't. I keep trying to take a deep breath but I can't fill my lungs up. Finally I get one and it feels so good! I go through bouts of this. WHen I am not experiencing that I just need more deep breaths and I can get them.
