This is my fourth week on Mepron and I feel exhausted. I can hardly do anything. Is this typical. If it is how long does it last? I hope I will not be sitting on the couch for 6 months.
I am down emotionally ; depressed but even more, anxious and irritable. I just don't want to do anything physically or emotionally. I feel like I am in prison.
This concerns me because it is similar to the way I felt before treating bart, which this LLMD says I do not have. I am afraid if that is creeping back up on me I will be underground by spring
But my physical symptoms are babesia right now. Does this anxiety happen with Mepron and babesia too? Thanks

I get wired from Mepron. It will make you depressed though.
Babesia is all about anxiety. 4 weeks on mepron is nothing, though
I would check my liver enzymes, keep that liver clean !

You should be on some type of liver support. My doctor has me on milk thistle. Also, squeeze lemon in water and drink 1-2 times a day.
Don't forget mepron can give you major blues (though this isn't always the case). There is a link somewhere for this. Do a search for mepron blues.

I guess it is good to know it is Mepron/babesia and not another infection coming out that is causing the anxiety.
Can I use milk thistle with Mepron? I was using alpha lipoic acid but read you can't use that so I quit. I am drinking lemon water.
What about the extreme fatigue and weakness? I get so tired and breathless when I do anything. Is this a herx? I hope this improves soon.

I get very tired on mepron and also feel unmotivated and just a general depressed feeling. I was on Malarone 3 months and now mepron for 2 and starting my 3rd month.
My llmd took me off mepron for 1 month thinking maybe the babesia was done and my mood and fatigue got better but my headaches got really bad again.
He put me back on it and within about 4 days I felt the impact of the mepron again.
I hope it does get better while taking it but if not I just make sure I keep reminding myself its the med and it will be over one day soon.

Sorry you're havin such a rough time, nefferdun!
Anxiety is a Babs thing! Yes, and extreme fatigue, weakness, wilting, breathless, wimpy!
My LLMD says Yes, you can use milk thistle with Mepron.
No ALA. Good. No co-Q10 or Vit E supps, either.
Lots of lemon water is always helpful! My LLRN encourages epsom salt baths, up to twice a day, to gently detox and take away the stress. Two cups of epsom salts in a bathtub. Soak in it for about 15 minutes or until water cools off. Really relaxing!
I think I read here somewhere that Babs has a 4-month whole life cycle so it needs to be treated for 4 months at least?

Oh, but to address the actual title of this thread, Mepron gives me insomnia, babesiosis and LD make me fatigued.
If I take Mepron after about 7 pm, it keeps me up and messes with my schedule. Try to eat dinner around 5 to 6:30 pm if you take a Mepron dose with dinner.
I hope you're counting total fat consumption, ensuring 25 - 27 grams total fat per meal that accompanies the Mepron or Malarone dose. Required for the meds to be utilized by the body.

Thanks you guys. I hope it does not last the entire six months I am supposed to take it. I was doing really well about 6 months ago. I was motivated and getting things done. My main complaint was memory loss which has never improved.
Then this babesia which has been hiding came out. This was the worst Christmas I have had - not too cheery that is for sure.
The LLMD gave me a anti-psychotic drug. I did not pick it up because it was so expensive but maybe I will. He said it would really affect my brain but I don't remember why.
All I do is sit around all day. A hot Epsom salts bath sounds pretty nice.
I will get out my milk thistle and try to remember to get the liver test done. Thanks.

Hey just remember to hang in there. It always helps me to know that babs is the enemy here. Fight Babs and your half way there.IT WILL TAKE A WHILE. So be patient. Mepron is a heavy weapon and usually does the job. Next X mas will be much better for you. Feel better

Nobody mentioned it, but I think you are supposed to take Mepron with 20 grams of fat. So, I usually take it right after I eat breakfast and dinner. If I forget, I will eat a slice of cheese or a handful of nuts with it. If I take too close to bedtime, I have some weird dreams and some anxiety and have difficulty getting to sleep.
It takes 90 days to clear the red blood cells. Thus, 4-6 months of the regimen for babs. I'm on month 3. Have had episodes of depression, flares of irritability, but for the most part feel much better.

I feel more optimistic knowing the I have found the hidden enemy and am taking it out. It really helps to know this is the reason I have not gotten well and now that we are attacking it I have a better chance of recovery.
I had to re-read the posts to understand it is the babesia, not the Mepron, that is making me so tired. So I should improve and start to feel better.
I hope I continue to tolerate the Mepron. So far, I haven't had nearly the problems other people write about. I had to buy 5 bottles of it to meet my deductable for the year so I sure hope I don't get a liver problem.
Sure wish I had gone about this the right way right from the start but who knows it might not have tested positive in the beginning.

Mepron is "barely water soluble" so it must be taken with 25 to 27 grams of total fat.
Adding nuts or sunflower seeds is a good idea.
But cheese or other dairy products should not be taken along with antibiotics.

I take it with coconut oil and/or nuts in oatmeal in the morning. And in the evening olive oil on a salad with some other fatfy food.
Today was a better day for me. I helped paint a room. I would not have been able to do that just two days ago. I was out of breath when I did anything. I would move around a liitle bit and then have to sit down to rest. I hope this continues.
