So, I was wondering if children react the same way to treatment as adults do? Will they get worse before they get better? Will they herx?

I'm kinda scared for my daughter. She is 5, and has had very vague symptoms for a yr. or so. So I had her tested just to see and these are her results.

IGM- 41 IND
30 +
IGG- 31 IND
39 +
41 +++

It's crazy because she wasn't even complaining of a lot of pain, just normal kid stuff. She started on amox. Anyone have any advise of what to expect? Thanks so much!!

Be sure you keep up with the probiotics. They have chewables that aren't too bad and you can put Kids Culturelle (?) in their drinks. I also put plain Kefir in their smoothies. They do not like the plain or the flavored but they don't know it's in their smoothies.

I just posted something similar for my son, who was/is also positive. My big issue is: how do you know if they still have it, or had it and it's gone? I know you go by the symptoms but you can't blame everything on lyme. Guess I'm not really asking a question, just beating myself up all the time out of worry for my kid.

I worry all the time too, to think about what could of happened in the next yr or 2. How bad could she have gotten.

Where can i get kids probiotics, anywhere they sell adult ones? Anywhere I can order on-line?

I had my son's LLMD prescribe VSL#2-DS

The packets are 900 Billion good bacteria per packet... you can adjust the dosage because its a powder and I just mix it with a small amount of juice.

For him, it's a treat because he doesn't get juice very often because of the high sugar content.

May health be with you!

Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began.

My son's herx's seem to be more neurological and emotionally based than physical.

Sadly, there are lots of parents on this board with sick children that I'm sure will weigh in as well.

Almost any place that sells quality probiotics will also have the ones for children.

I was told by our pharmacist that I can just give our son the adult kind since they are being used due to long term antibiotic use, but best to double check that. We have worked up the amount slowly.

Please also get your daughter tested for strep and mycoplasmas. The strep test is the Anti-DNase B and the ASO titers. They are blood tests.

Some things can trigger false positives on WB tests.

Good job for finding out, but I'm sorry to hear about another child being sick.

We just started my 2 year old son on treatment. He tested with 2 positive bands but his CD57 was 40.

He's on omnicef and zith and I think we wil be adding in tindimax in 6 weeks. Sorry I can't answer your questions as we are asking the same things.

My son did have a 102 fever the second day on abx. And, for the first few days, he was just grumpy, lethargic and tired. I think it was a herx.

I know we are doing the right thing but it's hard not to worry.

SO Delicious brand Cultured Coconut Milk kefir in strawberry flavor is very popular with kids in my neighborhood. Tastes like a milkshake! Has less sugar than juice or dairy-based kefir. You can add things to it, or add it to a smoothie.

I drink SO Delicious Cultured Coconut Milk original flavor with just 3gr sugar per glass. Kids object to that, tho. Some enjoy strawberry cut with original (to decrease sugar content).

Source Naturals Magnesium Serene berry flavor is a big treat to me, like cool-ade, but relaxing...
Maybe your children could enjoy that (just has Stevia), rather than juice (too much sugar; could promote yeast overgrowth)?

A very useful reference book you'll open again & again is "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by P.A. Balch, CNC. She wasn't Lyme-aware when the 4th edition was published, but every page has numerous helpful tips for dealing with maladies. She notes dosages to cut in half for children.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1583334009/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

I haven't seen the 5th edition yet. I've owned and given as gifts all previous editions. You can easily browse a copy of the 4th ed (orange cover) in book stores & health food stores.

I'm praying for all of you!
Best wishes,
Smile

My daughter, a teenager, didn't feel nearly as bad during treatment as I did. We caught hers before she had severe symptoms because we knew how to spot Lyme. She had daily headaches and some joint pain.

Her herxes were not severe, she could still go to school or out with her friends.

I think it all depends on how sick someone is when you get diagnosed.

My "kids" are teenagers and both are different in their Lyme effects. My sickest didn't herx too badly and he was homebound. My oldest hasn't really herxed at all. I'm in treatment too and haven't had any totally awful days. I hope that you will find your two year old gets through treatment like a charm. I wish you the best!

Things are never dull. After 3 fighting Lyme, 2 are in remission. Youngest is still sick, age 22. He has new diagnosed Chiari Malformation and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

My 5 & 7 year old both tested positive to Lyme too. My 7 year old is on his first week of Bactrim-as the DR.thinks he prob has Babs too.
He also took a month of Azithromycin-I haven't noticed ANY herxing-I keep asking him how he feels and he says fine. Actually he doesn't have any of the same Lyme symtoms as I do. But he tested positive thru Igenex and has a CD-57 of 53.

My five year old has her first appt. in a couple of weeks. She tested positive thru Igenex also. She hasn't had any additional blood work yet. It has taken me a quite a while to actually find an LLMD who will treat them because of their ages.

I don't know what to expect either-I too am trying to look at this as all a blessing.Better to find out now they are sick, than ten years down the road.
