Is it possible to start feeling good for a few

weeks on (1)abx...then like crap for 7-10 days?

would this mean that the abx is not working? or

a flair up? Herx? confused!

daughter was doing great on zithro 8-10wks...then FIZZLED out...last 7-10days!!

Now crying, emotional, red sore throat, irritable, complaining of stomache aches.

Llmd switched her to doxy...but now having stomache issues. ugggh

Make sure to have her eat a little, then take doxy, then eat a little more.

Is she taking strong probiotics?

I had our LLMD prescribe VSL#3-DS

It's a powder, so I can regulate how much my son gets. I give 1/4 tsp at a time. Usually once a day, sometimes twice a day.

Also, not sure if your daughter has had stomach issues all along or this just started with Doxy. If she has had them all along, cut out anything white, flour, sugar, no wheat(gluten), no dairy. This helped my son tremendously with his stomach aches.

Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began.

It sounds like a herx or flare up.

Lyme harbors strep which could be causing her sore throat. We found out mycoplasma can cause a red sore throat too.

Taking Doxy in the middle of a substantial meal will help with the nausea/upset stomach. We take a ginger root capsule when we take Doxy to also help with nausea.

We found out the hard way, to make sure you don't lay down for an hour after taking it.

Hope this helps some and that she feels better soon.

Good point, 5vforest.

What are signs that ABX is NOT working ??

In jenn's daughter's case, it sounds like the abx IS working and the symptoms need to be relieved.

Crying is a release... my son had this and it was scary for a mom to watch... and for the child to not know why they can't control the crying... but it is a herx reaction.

So, back to the question... What are signs that ABX is NOT working ?? I would say, no herx, no change, only getting worse, never seeing a worse period, then getting better. Hopefully, what lies on the other side of this period of feeling REALLY BAD... is that she feels a little better.

Jenn - is she on zithro alone? I haven't looked back, but I think my son always took this in combination with another abx? Perhaps more will chime in.

Please look into parasites too, which can cause stomach aches. The fact that she felt significantly worse around the full moon, points to parasites since this is when they multiply...

and HPU, this can impede detox channels through the liver. If the toxins can't get out, it will make her feel worse... especially when there is massive die off.

I didn't understand HPU at all (and was missing a big part of the picture) until I watched the presentation at the bottom of this page:

I had nearly the same experience but with Amoxicillin. After 5 weeks, I felt pretty darn good, and then I started to get a very WIRED feeling (needing to exercise at 3 AM). My LLMD also switched me to Doxy, which has caused more of classic herx symptoms.

My sense was that the Amox had stopped working (that the bugs had gotten the better of it) or that it may have only masked/suppressed the bugs at the start. I would have liked to try a much higher dose of Amox before moving to Doxy, but my LLMD felt that Doxy was the better route.

As for the stomach issues, they can be rough, but manageable. If I eat a big meal and take the Doxy as described above (for me about 1/3-1/2 way through), my stomach does pretty good and I've been able to increase my dose.

Also, the Doxy capsules are supposed to be easier on the stomach than tablets. So you might want to switch if your son has tablets.

Finally, I was reading something by Dr. S that suggested that Doxy can remove minerals from the system, so you may want to be sure your son has a multi-mineral supplement (away from the Doxy).

I went ballistic after 3 1/2 months of Zithromax. Zith gave me ear problems with tinnitus and balance issues which made me feel anxious and unable to think straight. It also made me feel detached and I sometimes spoke my thoughts out loud without knowing it (my kids would question what I meant by non sequiteurs...).

It took me another month (total 4 1/2 on Zith) before I figured out that herx/no herx or just plain bad reaction, Zithromax was not the drug for me.

Don't feel like your daughter failed the drug or didn't herx well enough. Sometimes, enough is really enough -- a cigar is just a cigar -- a herx is just a herx from hell and it's time to alter the game plan to make it bearable.

There's an old joke about the two seasons in Minnesota: Winter and Road Repair. For me, there were two seasons in Zithromax-land, Herx and Insanity. I switched drugs and felt so much better after I stopped pounding my head against the Zithromax wall!

Recently I contracted pneumonia and the doctor put me on a 5-day Z-Pac. Piece of cake! I recognized the mental fuzz and down feeling, but 5 days I can do -- plus, pneumonia left -- for long-term usage, however, Zithromax and I must part ways.

Best to you and your daughter in recharting a course with perhaps a few days of abx-free tummy recovery time-- BTW, I think you made a good choice to switch abx,

wiserforit2

P.S. I wound up going high dose Amox for 10 months (until tinnitus got bad again).
