1) Cobra venom will prevent this -- Do not suggest you try this. Actually early in his illness (way before he was diagnosed) hubby was given a very dilute homeopathic medicine made from cobra venom and imported from Switzerland that was supposed to rebuild nerves. I vividly remember 2 ER visits in the same day when he tried this.
2) Magnesium is required in the entry process -- yet another reason tickborne patients could be low in this essential mineral.
3) The complement pathway is utilized -- specifically C3. It looks like babesia diverts this part of the immune system to help it penetrate the red blood cells.
4) Glutathione looks like it is also a necessary requirement used in this process.
5) Most interesting of all -- EDTA prevents the entry of babesia into red blood cells.
I know there have been many discussions previously regarding whether oral EDTA is absorbed or not. Personally I feel that it is.
I plan to add low dose oral EDTA to hubby's babesia treatment along with his meds and herbs. At this point I plan on trying anything and everything that I think might help in the next 6 months to a year.
Hubby had a prior issue with mercury toxicity so he no longer has any metal amalgams.

Be careful with oral EDTA if you have any history of lead poisoning or if you have amalgams.
I took two of these and my neck was stiffened right up... it was scary as heck. I could not move it at all and my ear was moving closer to my shoulder!
Finally, I tried a sauna and it loosened up and I actually felt something heavy drop from my neck to my lower back... then I had lower back pain for a couple of days.
I think it was lead dropping from my neck to my kidneys.
I have some major lead history for remodeling an older home.
