Just picked up my Flagyl yesterday. I am supposed to take it 3 times per day and each dose is 500mg for a total of 1500dg a day (this is in addition to Rifampin and Doxycline.

I am just going to take 1 tablet today and maybe tomorrow take two and if that goes well the next day all 3. Does this dose sound normal or a lot?

The pharmacist said I don't have to try and space the antibiotics out from each other. I have done so w/ Rifampin (take it before bed and as soon as I wake up in the morning). I only take that drug 2x a day, but think I am going to have to take doxy and flagyl pretty closely together since I need to take them 3 times a day.

I am very nervous about this drug from all I have read. I am doing fine on the Rifampin and Doxy combo. I have been exercising, eating well and overall feel pretty good. I am not sure how I will feel w/ this new drug but so desperately want to knock this lyme/bart out of my system so I don't have to be on meds long term!

Thanks!

That dose does seem a bit high. My adult daughter took 750 mg per day. I also think it can be based on height and weight.

She was also told not to take it more than 2 months.

It appears you've made a duplicate post, you can go into edit/delete and remove the other one. [Smile]

Yes, antibiotics can be taken together. That is no problem at all. You have to take supplements and probiotics away from the antibiotics. So, we generally take our antibiotics all together.

I took 250 mg of flagyl 3 times per day. I weighted 110 pounds when I was treating lyme. That flagyl did the trick for me. It's how I got rid of lyme.

A previous lyme doc didn't give me anything for the cyst form of lyme, so I continually relapsed when I stopped meds. But once I took amoxicillin plus flagyl, I was good to go.

In March, it will be 6 years since I completed my lyme treatment and I am still symptom free, enjoying my life.

Flagyl caused my first big herx. It was 3 days of feeling sick and 4 days of feeling half sick.

Also, flagyl will give you yeast in a minute, so watch out for the white tongue and be sure your diet is just meat and non-starchy vegetables.

I did fine on the flagyl. I believe it will do the trick for you.

Thanks! How do I remove the duplicate post (can't figure it out!)? Not sure how the NP came up w/ 1500mg since I don't believe she has my height or weight (maybe I did put it in the paperwork). Will ask her about this. So good to hear this feedback. Thanks!

That dose is similar to mine. I took 1500 a day, for 5 days, then 2 days off, for 4 months. I took it at each meal, along with minocycline and biaxin. Are you taking nystatin to deal with potential yeast overgowth?

The dr. didn't recommend nystatin or even a schedule of x amt of days on and the days off. So glad you mentioned this. I am going to call her this week and ask her about both! Thank you!!
