Hi, I started a regiment of Abx's 4 weeks ago, been going down hill since...

Septra 2day
Biaxin 1000 mg day
Amox 1500 mg day

I have terrible pain in arms especially right above my elbows(outside)...top of forearms too..

Also have muscle pain so bad it hurts when I put pressure on any area.. it's everywhere... (literally feel like the girl sleeping on a stack of mattresses feeling the pea...think that's the story anyway..lol)

Top of shoulders and upper back area are stinging like crazy too...

Wondering if some of you have experienced this... is it the drugs or herxing?

I know what herxing felt like a few yrs ago(2-3 days) when I was given meds for something else.. this just feels too gradual...

These are the same meds I'm on now that I took then...

Also my mouth and inside of lips are sore(no sores).. burning sensation/very sensitive... Another side effect of meds????

Thanks for any responses!

What kind of support supplements are you taking to help minimize the herx reaction?

Milk Thistle? Magnesium? Fish Oil? Enough water? Green Tea? (All are good.)

Mouth sores can be lack of certain vitamins (B-6, B-12, Folic acid, D3).

DGL can help in addition to nutrients.

A gluten-free diet often helps a lot.

I hope your doctor has been over all this with you. If not, take a look at the articles and books further down this thread as there are many good suggestions for support supplements to help decrease pain.

This happened to me too. When i tested for lyme and started treatment my symptoms were mild.

About 2 weeks into treatment i bombed, hard. Then i started to get better.

There's always the possibility of a drug reaction, but this sort of thing DOES happen with lyme.

It really sounds like your herxing.. Remember that the lyme spirochete has a 4 week cycle and if your symptoms are exacerbated it could be you're going through that cycle. It does get better.. Each cycle becomes less intense.

You're also on a pretty aggressive treatment protocol.

I'm not sure about the burning inside the mouth, that could be a sensitivity. When starting any abx regimen it's best to start one med at a time to see if you have any sensitivities.

LuLu is right, that is an agressive treatment. When I started mine, I felt exactly the same but I was on Minocin and Levaquin, now I am down to M W F on minocin. Off levaquin, after 3 mos. I am just starting to feel somewhat better

I think Septra is the same med as bactrim. If so that med depletes your folic acid -- that is how it works to kill babs. But a folic acid deficiency can cause mouth sores as you mentioned. You can take a supplement, but I would discuss the dose with your LLMD.

Sounds like a herx to me. We can herx within days of beginning a new abx, and usually have a major herx every 3-5 wks.
