...and how did you do it? What meds, for how long?
My original symptoms way back a year ago were very Babs like. I had sweating, flushing, dizziness, etc.
Back in May, I tested borderline positive for Babs Duncani. My nero LLMD wants to treat using Coartem.
I may also start Artemisinin.
Just wondering how others cleared this nasty beast.
And..since I have little to no symptoms as of now, am I potentially opening up pandora's box if I start treatment?

Oh you could very well open Pandora's box! It's a nasty bug. I haven't figured anything out yet, but my feeling is it'll get you now or later. It's there waiting.

I encourage you to treat it before it takes over. When I recognized the symptoms over a year ago I asked for treatment and was ignored.
A year later it took over my life. I tested positive at that time. I am taking Mepron and zithro and slowly improving. It has been over 8 weeks.
I asked the same question as Babesia D is very resistant and I am worried about it. I got no responses at all so there are not very many people out there who have gotten rid of it.
I have never heard of Coartem. I will have to look that up.

Is Mepron a 'must' for this type of babs? I think I'm positive for babesia microti, not duncani (yet), but there's no way I can afford this medication...as in ever...

Malarone contains the same drug as Mepron (atovaquone) plus proguanil.

The problem is you have to take three capsules of malarone to get 750mg of Mepron.. And malarone is not absorbed as well as Mepron which is liquid.
I know what you mean about the expense. It is unbelievable. Someone on here said if you qualify you can get it at a reduced rate. I think maybe even free - worth the try.

Yes, Glaxo offers a program called Patient Assistance. It's very easy to apply, and your doctor's office will become your advocate. In about 15 minutes, you could have a certificate for a 30-day supply of Mepron to pick up immediately. The rest comes in the mail.
Someone remind me, please. Is the Duncani strain also called WA-1? That's what I'm positive for.

Malarone is VERY expensive too. Don't kid yourself. I have no doubts Mepron is absorbed better as I can handle 4 tablets of Malarone daily OK for the most part. Mepron is another story. It's the second ingredient in Malarone that some say hits WA-1. That's why I'm trying it. Mepron rips my stomach up. Not sure what is right or wrong.

I am going to try Mepron. Fortunately, my insurance covers it. My copay is less than $100. Still pricey..but not the hundreds I've seen elsewhere.

Some say some success with Clinda + quinine.
I've had some success (at least no longer anemic- yay!) with 2 years of Mepron + Zith. But yet it comes and goes.
I'm CDC+ for duncani. That strain sure seems like a !

I wanted to post that about a month ago, I completed a 60 day course of cryptolepis extract (40 drops 3 x day) for babesia and it seems to have been effective. I have a microscope and monitor my progress weekly and so far my blood has been clear of the parasites. I had originally tried artemisinin pulsing for 4 months along with the Cowden protocol without success. The cryptolepis treatment was quite mild and I worked up on it slowly.

My daughter is taking the Cryptolepis with Bab1 and Bar1 and having good results..
What do you mean by CDC positive for Ducani? Did your blood sample go to the CDC? My son and I both tested positive through Quest.
The CDC does not like Quest labs for that particular test so I was just wondering which lab did yours.
Thanks so much...
We are both taking Lariam and doing much better. I used to have bone crushing pain (thought I had cancer) but have improved greatly.

I meant "high enough titers".
I tested pos. with both Quest and LabCorp.
From what I know, the CDC will not even ALLOW Babesia duncani (microti I think they will) to be "reported" in VA; ie "it doesn't exist in VA".
Perhaps that's out of date now and perhaps they do, but not since last I checked. Grrrrr.

The CDC must be pretty dumb to say this. When a serial killer crosses a state line and commits a murder, does it not count if they are a native of the original state? I mean who really comes up with this stuff?
