Brain spinning, so many questions, trying to focus to get some answers:
Im 50 yr old male 6 months into good LLMD treatment for lyme and bart
Most likely have had 20+ yrs
Physically improving well
Mental health deteriorating and issues seem to be showing, growing, and expanding daily. Without going into all my details on this first effort, and knowing nothing in the lyme world is normal Ill ask: have others experienced this? Things seem to be coming out of the wood work or coming to the surface with some energy and its making it really hard to work and function. Anxiety attacks, passive aggressive, avoidant personality disorder, codependency, I can check off 90% of the symptoms for each right now.

Will some of this pass as I get the upper hand on the lyme and bart and the neurotoxins decrease and my brain heals or were these things buried and are emerging?

Are there meds that can help with some of this?
Im thinking to find a LL psychiatrist or psychologist in my area if there is such a thing.

I have much more but wanted to get this started. Thanks.

My LLMD said they are having good luck with LENS therapy. I know a young woman who is taking this therapy for neuro craziness and she is very enthusiastic about it although the phone conversation I was listening to ended before many details. I'm reading "The Healing Power of Neurofeedback" by Stephen Larsen and will probably go that way for my neuro lyme when more spirochetes are dead.

For a practitioners list go to ochslab.com.

Good luck.

Thanks for the thoughts and info. I'll check out the book and practioner's list. I don't know what LENS therapy is.

What is your coinfection status? Sometimes mental symptoms are lyme, sometimes they are bartonella, or a combination.

There are lyme literate psychiatrists, if you want some names.

Sheryl777 - Thanks I looked into LENS therapy and plan to buy the book to learn more. How will you decide when enough spirochetes are dead to start?

Lou - confirmed for lyme and heavy bart
started abx and many supplements last August
Minocycline 100mg twice a day
Plaquenil 200mg twice a day
azithromycin 600mg once a day
started rifampin in early January 300mg twice a day, mid-January increased to 600mg twice a day
plan is to stay here for a few months and then boost the rifampin one more time

I think the plan was to treat the lyme first and then take on the bart.

Physically I've gotten more energy stronger and less fatigued over the last 6 months. I've had head, muscle, bone, joint pain through the years that I now equate to lyme/bart but never really had the debilitating issues I read about (fortunately). it's been mostly mental deterioration, loss of intelligence, executive function, depression, no motivation.......

I've read treatment can cause neuro symptoms to increase and new ones to appear and I think that's where I am and wonder if some professional help with trying to keep a job/life/family while struggling and waiting for things to get better would help??

I would like some LL psychiatrists or psychologists names in Maryland and surrounding area if you have some.

Lymetoo - Thanks for the greeting! I see you make many worthwhile posts and offer good advise and support frequently.

So sorry you're experiencing all this - I can totally relate!

I've been treating 2.5 years and the mental issues are much, much better. I have to say, Rifampin really made me a mess: panic attacks, insomnia, constantly keyed-up. I had to quit after only 3 months on it.

Something that seemed to really help me turn the corner with the mental stuff was taking supplements for KPU (check out http://betterhealthguy.com/joomla/images/stories/PDF/kpu_klinghardt_explore_18-6.pdf ).

Good luck!

I've been there. A lot of it stopped when I quit working. However I still use an antidepressant.

Landerss - thanks for the response. Learning people have atleast some of the same symptoms and issues is a help. I printed the KPU article to discuss with my LLMD this week, and think a test might be worthit. I have the white marks on my fingernails and plenty of the symptoms and conditions. I take multiple supplements for detox, maybe need more$$$$.

lymednva - finding out people have been there and gotten better gives me hope. Did you quit working by choice, necessity or force? I feel I'm faced with all three. Do you think a lot of it stopped when you quit working because your stress was reduced? Stress seems to trigger feeling worse. I take a pill for anxiety and depression.

One thing that helped me enormously and right away, was to get off gluten. That's because I am gluten intolerant, and of course as needs no saying, not everybody is. However clinical nutritionist Elizabeth Lipski, CCN MS states in her book Leaky Gut Syndrome (highly recommended reading) that even clinical schizophrenia can be triggered by leaky gut or gluten (in gluten sensitive people). Talk about mental healht issues ,whoa! If the power of food allergies is that profound, I suggest you read the booklet and check into it.

Again gluten avoidance helped me enormously with anxiety and non-stop thoughts. Another layer surfaced and it's lyme-related. MY LLMD said that it won't go away until the infection is healed, that's all there is to it.

I hope this proves helpful.

Thanks Chiquita,
I haven't gotten serious about diet and trying to be gluten free and it certainly seems many have success and improvements and compared to the cost of all the meds and supplements it's worth a try.
