Hi everyone...I finally had a WB done by a lyme-friendly MD who diagnosed me clinically with Lyme. He specifically ordered the WB with all bands. This test seems too vague to me- others' test results show specific bands and + or -. The only indicator for me is the Lyme IgG and IgM at 0.43. Can anyone offer some input? Thanks!
Lyme IgG & IgM 0.43 Ref range 0.00-1.20 LIV Lyme IgG, WB Negative Lyme IgM, WB Negative
When the Borrelia burgdorferi Abs, Total by ELISA result is negative, no further testing is done. Reference interval: Borrelia Burgdorferi Abs, Total by ELISA 0.99 LIV or Less: Negative: Antibody to Borrelia burgdorferi not detected. 1.00-1.20 LIV: Equivocal: Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful 1.21 LIV or Greater: Positive, Probable presence of antibody to Borrelia burgdorferi detected. Performed by ARUP Laboratories www.aruplab.com
Bands present for Lyme IgG Western Blot= None Bands present for Lyme IgM Western Blot= None

That test is negative.
The testing with the + and - is from IGeneX. You might ask your Lyme friendly MD to do an IGeneX Western Blot for you. Both IgG and IgM.

Thanks. I don't think the MD is going to be pleased with this lab so I'll talk with him about the IGeneX Western Blot when I see him next week.

That's one of the problems with other labs.. they don't tell you which bands showed up. You could have Lyme specific bands that showed up and that would mean you have Lyme.
Onward, forward!!

That is what I was thinking...it would have been much better to see each specific band. Yes...onward, forward...I'm being treated for Lyme anyway but am interested in seeing a lab result on paper.

It seems to me that this lab did an ELISA on you, not a WB.
That's why they are giving you the ELISA reference range and stating that when the ELISA is in the negative range (which yours is at 0.43), they will not do any further testing.
In other words, they are saying that they will only do the WB if your ELISA is first positive.

At the bottom it says no bands were present for the Western Blot. I looks like it was taken, but no bands showed up.

Since the test says conflicting things, it might be good to call the lab and see if they actually did do the Western Blot.

Good point. Maybe there were no bands because they didn't do the test!!!

You're right...now that I read it again, it appears they may have not done the test...though the MD specifically ordered the WB with all bands reported. It is so vague and I will find out Monday what my MD thinks about it. Thank you!
