Just took my first pill to bring on my period. By the 10th one, you should have it and that has to help this insanity, even more than ususal. Is that a bioidentical? Somethings gotta give. Thanks.

I will never forget thie Prometrium and what it did to my wife. Her Thyroid doctor prescribed Prometrium and my wife took it according to the protocol. My wife's confusion got increased, her blood sugar dropped and she felt horrbile on that. One midnight she woke up and she did not even notice that she is not putting the toilet seat down and sat down. She looked at me as if she didn't know who I am.

She stopped it immediately. Ofcourse her doctor told to stop.

No it's not bio-identical. Bio-identical hormones are compounded specifically for you from a compounding pharmacy.

Prometrium is bio-identical. It exactly matches human progesterone chemically. What is different about it is that it is taken as a pill, which means the dose must be much larger than with the creams, due to the liver removing much of it before it reaches the blood stream.

I took it for awhile with no trouble...but it was very pricey.

I use NOW brand progesterone cream instead... but remembering to use it is another story.

Whitney and Lymetoo,

Do you use it 2 weeks a month? Does anything happen when you stop (such as withdrawal)?

I heard from other women that they had withdrawal from stopping progesterone. That's the last thing in the world I need.

No it's not pregnant mare's urine. That's premarin.

From the link I provided above:

What are the ingredients in PROMETRIUM Capsules? 165 Active ingredient: 100 mg or 200 mg micronized progesterone 166 167 The inactive ingredients for PROMETRIUM Capsules 100 mg include: peanut oil NF, 168 gelatin NF, glycerin USP, lecithin NF, titanium dioxide USP, D&C Yellow No. 10, and FD&C 169 Red No. 40. 170 171

The inactive ingredients for PROMETRIUM Capsules 200 mg include: peanut oil NF, 172 gelatin NF, glycerin USP, lecithin NF, titanium dioxide USP, D&C Yellow No. 10, and FD&C 173 Yellow No. 6. 174

I would not take it with all those artificial dyes and unnecessary additives. Compounded micronized progesterone would be a much better alternative for you.

My Gp gave me prometrium t take to help stabilize my hormones since I am near menopause but I never took one since it said causes dizziness on the bottle.

My whole issues was dizziness so why would I increase it? Not to sure about this drug and afraid of its side effects?

I do not have lyme -- hubby does. I was prescribed prometrium years ago because I have polycystic ovaries and that causes hormone issues.

I only ended up taking 2 or 3 pills. At first my throat felt like it was swelling up and like I couldn't swallow. That feeling lasted for a couple of hours I think. Then the next day I coughed so hard I threw up. That is when I figured out the med was the problem.

I had never had any kind of allergy problem in my life before but after taking 2 or 3 prometrium pills I became allergic to peanuts because of the peanut oil used in the pills.

I avoided all peanut products for 8 or 10 years and can now eat a few nuts without any problems.

Just wanted to share this in case someone else might have an allergic reaction as I did.

Can't remember .. thought it was 3 wks..?? No problems at all.

Wait.. which one do you mean?? The NOW brand cream IS from yams. Almost all natural ingredients. Check your health food store.

I think I'm supposed to use it daily .. but that never happens!

I've been taking compounded micronized progesterone since 1993. I have never had a problem with withdrawal. It's not a issue.

Progesterone balances out estrogens (there are the types), keeps it in check so to speak.
