My 17 y/o daughter is having trouble sleeping. Even though she's exhausted she still can't fall asleep or stay asleep. She tried benedryl but that has stopped helping her. Anyone with any ideas? Blessings

I suffered terribly with this until I got good lyme treatment. Then, it went away on its own.
The doc who cured me told me that lyme affects the sleep center of the brain. That's why we can't sleep.
The book "The Lyme Disease Solution" lists a number of medications to help the lyme patient fall asleep and stay asleep. You may want to consider buying this book.
For the inability to fall asleep, he says to start with melatonin, 1.5 mg an hour before going to bed.
He also suggests opening the melatonin capsule and putting the melatonin under the tongue, then swishing it around in the mouth with a little water and swallowing it. Then you must immediately go to bed in the dark and don't read or watch TV or anything, otherwise it will backfire. With this method, you usually fall asleep within 20 minutes.
For moderate insomnia, he suggests a glycine supplement (2,000-3,000 mg) before bed and valerian tea.
For severe insomnia, Ambien or Klonopin.
He also has suggestions for those with problems staying asleep including 5-HTP (50 to 100 mg )and L-tryptophan (500-1,000 mg), then Rozerem (8 mg), Ambine (10 mg), Lunesta (2-3mg) or Sonata (10 mg). He finally then names neurontin (for moderate symptoms) and a controlled prescription drug named Xyrem for severe symptoms.
