Hi I went to see a lyme specialist in MA. i went to see him after seeing him in the documentary "under our skin". all my tests for lyme and co-infections came back negative at quest. he still agreed to treat me based on my symptoms. i asked him certain questions...
1) how is lyme transmitted?
answer: he told me through a tick, and if a mother gets infected during her first trimester, it could be passed on to newborn. NOT THROUGH SEX. is he right?
2) I asked, do you treat co-infections?
answer: if necessary, and the medication I will give you, PLAQUENIL and CLARITHROMYCIN will treat all of them except babesiosis, but i have seen no evidence of a long term babesiosis infection anwyays. is he right?
The Lyme documentary UNDER OUR SKIN brought up the questions for me of: can a woman infected with late lyme give birth to lyme diseased kids, whether lyme is sexually transmitted, and how a whole family can be infected, kids and all if lyme is only really spread through a tick bite.
if anybody can respond to the questions ive raised, please do because there is so much controversy over what the CORRECT answers to these questions are i am not sure where to get the right answers. thanks

His answer to the transmission of lyme is very ambiguous.. Does that mean that a person with chronic lyme may not pass it on to her baby? Or someone who is in remission? I've heard that anyone who has ever had lyme must take abx to prevent passing it onto their child.
I am truly surprised that this man does not believe babesia is a long term infection.
I haven't seen the film UOS but I would question this doctors approach to this illness.

Sorry his thoughts about Babesia are total BS from what I've read. He doesn't seem informed or educated on Dr B's guidelines/experiences one bit.

And many stay sick a long time without proper treatment for the babesia they don't know they have and aren't being treated for.
I mean this "across the board."

Agree with Seek. Dr. D has been using the same protocol for years and is not getting patients in to remission. His approach is too narrow and conservative. He spent years dispensing Tetra.
If his narrow protocol worked, none of us would be here.
Babesia is rampant and is usually chronic.

Can you give us the first initial. --better yet, send me a PM. I want to be sure to avoid this guy.
I may have to watch my movie again just to see who he is.
Find another doctor who has a clue.

More and more evidence is showing the Lyme CAN be transmitted via sex. It's not 100% proven yet, but when you consider whole families being infected with Lyme--enough said.
You can do a search here and find many links that confirm this, you'll also find links that dispute it, although, most people who say it can't be sexually transmitted don't have very solid science to back it up.
Best to practice safe sex. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yes he is the film. He was one of the early lyme doc's to make a name for himself. Too bad he is not really helping many with complicated cases. Tetracycline was his first baby. I guess he has moved on to PLAQUENIL and CLARITHROMYCIN.
Like I said, if taking those two meds did the trick, none of us would be here on this site.

Yeah, I would've been cured a long time ago. I will say it's the best combo I've taken, but no permanent gains. Once off it for a month, all goes downhill so in my eyes it's useless.
