On my 5th week of taking Plaquenil and Biaxin and have not been experiencing any funkiness, until a few days ago when i noticed the glands in my neck were getting swollen and a little irritated.

After a few days of this getting worse, it is now getting difficult to swallow and they are keeping me up at night due to the pain and discomfort.

I understand that their job is to filter infection from the body, so maybe this is the first sign of Herxing?

My throat is not sore or raw like it would be if i was gettinga cold, just swollen, painful glands. So weird.

Whatever it is, has anyone experienced this before? How long did it last? What did you do to help with the swelling and pain?

I took 3 advils that seemed to help with pain and maybe a little w/ swelling but they're still very uncomfortable and i dont want to keep taking 3 advils 3 times a day for the next...however long..on top of Abx and everthing else i'm taking.

I was only taking teh Abx and Probiotics for a while since i wasnt having any Herxing i didnt see the need for all the supps... now i'm starting to take them again (B12, Mag, fish Oil, Lipoic Acid)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. If this IS Herxing than i'm actually kind of excited because i was beginning to think my Dx was not accurate...

Do you happen to have an allergy to sulfa/sulfites? My sister is allergic to them and was told by her LLMD to avoid Plaquenil.

When she would eat eggs and aged cheese (which contain sulfites), her throat would begin to close and her tongue would swell. We think this is also one of the culprits of her seizures.

Are you able to take Benadryl or Zyrtec? If this is an allergic reaction, one of these antihistamines might help.

My son and I are being treated for Babesia and Lyme. He had swollen glands for the longest time but treatment has helped greatly. He took Mercurius Heel which did the trick.

Just a thought...hope you feel better soon.

Something that I have used to help with my Lymphadnopathy over the last 4 or 5 years is to take a really hot shower and just let the water pour down on your neck really hard for as long as you can.

It helps to move the lymph fluid along and to detox them.

You could also take a long hot Epsom salt bath but you would want to have water up to your head, so that might be kind of hard.

Thanks IH4L,

I dont think it's an allergic reaction since this is just cropping up after 5 weeks of beig on the Abx.

I don't beleive I am allergic to sulfites as, prior to treatment, i drank my fair share of wine and eggs and cheese with seemingly no issues, although I never really connected the two.

My doctor replied back and said she wants to see me on Monday if it persists or gets worse. She wants to do some "basic bloodwork". sounds a little serious...yikes..

I'll keep you posted, but would love to hear from anyone else who may have or have had this issue in relation to Abx treatment.

Thank You!

I struggle with swollen glands, too, especially when I am herxing.

What helps me are:

1. herbal tea....lots of it, especially the ones that are good for detoxing (green, pomegranate). I use Splenda or honey with it....but am careful with the sugar.
2. long hot epson salts baths...I got a gadget that allows the tub to fill nearly to the top and I use bubble bath that softens my skin
3. milk thistle several times a day
4. hot compress right on the darned gland!
