So I was testing very positive for lyme disease way back in October of 2009. I didnt have any symptoms. I only got checked because a friend of mine thot they saw a tick on me. which they ended up not really seeing in the end. when that test came back my ELISA was positive and I was IGM POSITIVE bands 41 and 23
although it took me a whole year to get sick. and during that whole year in between I kept getting lyme titers done and they kept coming back as positive. the western blot IGM 41 and 23 was positive too. but still no symptoms yet
what can cause that? I had LOTS of antibodies showing up in my blood . how come I didnt start getting sick till a year later? it seems a bit strange. right

Maybe you got the "flu" back then and don't remember it?? or .. your body could have "handled it" and once it blew out your immune system, then you crashed.

Lymegal, I think A LOT of people are walking around symptom free ( right now ) and they are infected with Bb and don't know it.
Lots of people can have Bb, but it isn't technically Lyme until you become symptomatic from it.
Maybe it goes dormant very quickly because the environment is just not right for them, and when the immune system weakens for whatever reason, then WHAM! They come out.
My husband is symptom free and healthy, but has been bitten by ticks many many times. I'd be willing to bet if he were ever tested, he'd have antibodies show up.
There's a lady who had a hysterectomy, and the surgery is what woke up her spirochetes that had been dormant, and they went nuts. No telling how long she'd been carrying it before her surgery.
I'm pretty sure a lot of people get bit and the Bb can stay dormant for many many months and years until the perfect storm wakes it up.

I agree with Hambone. And I also think a lot of people have symptoms but have no idea they are caused by Bb&co.
My husband had symptoms but wasn't "sick." Treatment was easier and faster for him (than for sick ole me) even though more symptoms came temporarily to the forefront (like Bart rashes).

Hmm taht is true. I know ive had "costochondritis" since I was 12 years old. and I was supposably supposed to grow out of it after puberty but here I am 24 years old and still have it
Lymetoo suggested it might have been one of my earliest lyme symptoms. Interesting thought..

I never saw the tick that made me sick. I started to have slight problems. When my thyroid was going down, lyme came out. I had many ticks in my life and i live in an epidemic area. I wasn't sure for a long time but everything else is kinda ruled out!

That's interesting. I just remembered that my hubby was given Flagyl after a minor surgery 3 years ago and it about killed him too.
Of course, then, we had no idea why. Just figured he was allergic to it or something.
He just finished his 3rd week of it yesterday and hasn't had any reactions since the first week when he was just really tired. It's been nothing like when he took it 3 years ago.
You know, I think if someone were to collect and study all the shared/common info posted on these lyme sites, we'd be so much further ahead in diagnosis/treatment/even cure.

I think steriod injections can suppress the immune system and allow the BB to take over.

I just had another aha moment.
I was sick in 2001 and given an SSRI ( when it was really Lyme and Mayo never told me ).
In 2005, I got a UTI and my ob-gyn gave me FLAGYL!!!!!! I specifically remember him telling me not to drink any alcohol with that antibiotic or I'd get really sick. ( I don't drink, but this is how I remember it was Flagyl he gave me ).
After that is when things started falling part again and I was full-on debilitated and had to quit my job about 2 months later.
WOW! I never made the connection til now.

I just looked up costochondritis, this is what my 8 yr old complains of. Sheesh, will it ever stop?
I'm glad I made the decision (and my husband went along willingly) to get myself and my two kids into an LLMD even though it will be out of plan. Thank God for these boards.

Ham over my 12 year++ experience and education, I've had many aha moments. That's why I call it a large puzzle. 5000 piece puzzle?
When you find pieces it sure changes things and starts to make sense.
