My 3yo son hasn't been himself the past few weeks. On 2/16 I thought he came down with the flu as a number of people in our family had it. He seemed to bounce back initially, but really hasn't been himself since.

He's actually asking to go to bed, and has slept continually through his nap and nighttime twice. He's been running fevers from 100 degrees to 102 last Monday, has had two very odd black bms in his diaper, complained once that his neck hurt, mentioned his stomach hurts a couple times, looks pale and tired, and is generally clingy and low energy compared to his norm.

I did get a tiny tick off of him on Tuesday and it was in his hair. I have no idea how long it was there, it was very small... We have an appointment with a llmd's office next week, having been down this road before with another son who was three at the time also.

I'm in a bit of denial that we could be doing it all over again, and would love any ideas on what could be wrong other than tickborne disease? Sigh...

After 2 years of treatment with a good llmd, my first son is now well and seems symtpom free from lyme, babesia and bart. So that is good news.

Sorry to hear about this.

I guess if there's any good news out of this, it sounds like it was very recent.

Hopefully, your LLMD will start him on a protocol very soon and get him out of the creek early.

Black stool is an indication of internal bleeding and is an emergency situation.
I would get him to the ER or at least a Pediatrician at once.

Have a liver function test also.

Hi Al
You are right. It *can be* a sign of all that you are saying.

Just to reassure, I am not a doctor but in my best understanding, it doesn't have to be.

It could be from eating spinach too, for example.

Yes he should be seen right away. And surely in one so young, it is something very treatable and he will bounce right back.

If you've been treating for the flu, is it possible you gave him Pepto Bismol? That can cause black stools..

If it was my kid, I would get him to the doctors and get him tested for lyme & Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Pronto. I would not wait for a LLMD visit. Most regular docs will treat for 2 weeks. Needs to be on meds now if tick bite.

Good luck.

I would agree with apljack, you don't want to wait until this disease becomes disseminated which happens quite quickly.

We saw the LLMD's nurse practicioner yesterday that we started with 5yo that had Lyme and co. She actually remembered us and him, so that was nice.

No blood in the stool (I took a diaper), she said it was from a food most likely. No pepto here either, we just rode the flu out with our whole food supplement, Juice Plus, and elderberry... The more I think about it, I wonder if he didn't drink too much elderberry juice once or twice, and maybe that caused it?

Blood work has been done and the tick is on his way to the lab too. It was super tiny so none of us were really sure even, what kind it is. If I remember correctly they are pulling a CBC, allergy panel, lyme test, babesia test and maybe something else. Hopefully we will have more info soon...

He's still got a clear runny nose, and is pale, and last night his temp was low as opposed to two nights ago it was 100.5. Last Monday it was 102, and then last Wednesday it was 100.4. He does have more energy today than he's had the past two weeks, so that's good but he doesn't have much of an appetite.
