Being a man, I'm not sure if I can have a yeast infection???...but, from what I read on this board and read elsewhere, anitbiotics can allow yeast to grow and have adverse effects on the body...That is why pro-biotics are needed.

Oh, you can get a yeast infection if you are a man just as easily as a woman can. If you are uncertain if you have it, you can do a spit test, also look at your tongue.. If you have a thick white coating especially at the back, it's a definite possibility.
Heres how to do it. Because candida yeast collects in the saliva overnight, as soon as you get out of bed and before you eat or drink anything, fill a clear glass with water and spit once into the glass of waterthe more saliva the better. It usually takes about half an hour or so to see the results, though Ive noticed that things can begin happening in as soon as fifteen minutes.
Youll be able to tell if you have a yeast infection if you see one or more of the following three results:
1. Tentacle-like or stringy formations will start to hang from the saliva pool floating on top of the water.
2. Cloudy spots or specks may be suspended in the water.
3. Your saliva may become cloudy and sink to the bottom of the glass.
If your saliva remains floating on top of the water and there arent any stringy leg-like things hanging from it after one hour, youre one of the lucky few with no yeast infection symptoms and you probably have the yeast in your body under control.
DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.
"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."
Five Steps to Candida Elimination:
1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.
2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]
3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]
4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]
5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

Yes, could be yeast. Yes, men can have yeast infection and itching. I spray a mixture of 1-2 drops vinegar in 1-2 fl oz water and then spray on the itchy area, and it has been helpful. I do it regularly each morning as a preventative.

There's several things you can do if it's yeast. You can take natural approach and treat it with oregano oil, olive leaf extract, garlic.. pau de arco, there are several natural yeast fighting products..
You can also go the pharmaceutical route and take nystatin, or diflucan, both of which are very good.. We found the nystatin to be very expensive and had to be made at a compounding pharmacy.

There is a possibility the itching all over is due to high liver function tests.
I had itching all over and a sharp, knife like pain at the right side bottom of my rib cage. I described it as the knife is in there all the time but once in a while it twisted to intensify the pain.
My GP said it was all in my head.
A couple of weeks later I was throwing up every 2 minutes... when I got to the ER my liver function tests were high. They admitted me because they could not stop me from throwing up in the ER.
All I am saying is check your liver function tests on your CBC. If those are high, the itching can be from that alone.

I am not a doctor... and I can't feel your pain... in my opinion -- the ER won't know what to do.
Even with my constant throwing up, they could not find a reason for it. They ruled out hepititis & Cirrhosis and eventually called it "sphincter of oddi" Which says that the muscle at the end of a bile duct is spitting bile into my blood and poisoning me.
They put me on muscle relaxers.
It has been over 2 years since that ER trip. I still get the pain.
Now, I take acidophilous when I get the pain & the itching... and it gets better.
Heavy metals cause interference in heme metabolism, oxygen saturation and transport, and cause elevated levels of a number of porphryins in urine.
Check for high levels of pyrroles in the urine. Pyrrole is a toxin that interferes with liver detoxification and with heme production. When pyrroles are elevated, there will be a very high requirement for zinc and B6. You can get a urinary screen for elevated pyrroles at Vitamin Diagnostics. I believe this was my isssue all along.
This condition is called HPU and/ or KPU and some very smart Dr's are saying 80% of those with chronic lyme have this underlying condition.

Your doctor should be monitoring your enzymes every 4-6 weeks while you are on abx. However, my daughter would get liver pain and her enzymes would be completely normal. So IMO it could be part of the die off..
