I have an 11 month old daughter. I was diagnosed with Lyme last week. I had breastfed my daughter up until that day.
I remember having a bulls eye rash in 2006, which at the time I thought was ring worm. I'm assuming that was when I got lyme, and concerned that I passed it on to her, either during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
I am concerned about my baby and wondering what symptoms I should be looking for. Today she had a fever of 101 and was very sleepy all day, not interested in playing, vomited, loose stools. Then suddenly she was better, but crawling around kind of stiff, looking like she was drunk.
My ped (not sure if she's a believer in chronic lyme) and my LLMD both said testing her isn't necessary if I don't see symptoms. But what the heck are symptoms in a baby? Also - what is treatment for a baby? How well do they handle it? thanks!

There are symptoms in babies. Cradle cap, heart murmur, croup. My 12 yr old had all this. We are treating for lyme now. Was it lyme then? I'll never know.
Failure to thrive can be a symptom too. There are other symptoms too. In one of the first links, if you look long enough you'll find the list. Or, someone will come along and post it for you.
You need to post in seeking a doctor so she can be properly evaluated and treated. I'm not sure why an LLMD wouldn't want to test her. Will he/she diagnose clinically?
I do not know treatment for babies.
Sorry you are going through this.

I am not a doctor so please keep that in mind. I do want to weigh in, having read that babies' and childrens' detox enzymes are lower than an adult's....and that of course dosages are always lower for an infant or child....
This lower level of detox enzymes in a baby means that to go *very gently and slowly!* will be absolutely key for your baby.
Make sure your LLMD is very sensitive to that and does not prescribe anything with harsh side effects, and at very low dosages. Be sure she is protected iwth lots of things to build up her immunity and detox capacities, in ways that a baby can handle.
I would recommend you read the pregnancy/child section in Linda Rector Page, ND's reference book Healthy Healing (in healthfood stores).
She mentions chamomile tea and papaya juice for colic et al. You can also give your baby probiotics *that are specifically designed for infants.* Remember that they have different digestive bacteria than adults do. Careful there! Natren makes very high quality infant probiotics that can help beef her tummy and immunity back up.
I think it is definitely wise to see a LLMD who specializes in pediatrics.
If it was me myself, I would want her to see a naturopath. ACcording to one naturopath on the web whose essay I read, he wrote that he "would never recommend abx for lyme" because he said the herx's are often side effects mixed with genuine die-off. He said that he has seen too many people get well with naturopathics alone, with fewer herx's and much more gentle ones when they do happen. He also said that he has had people coming from around the country to be treated by him (so he is no slouch).
Maybe homeopathics would help your baby with the balance issues? And stomach stuff? You just need someone who knows what htey are doing. ALongside treating the lyme but in the most gentle, gentle way possible for an infant.
