Any ideas of what to do to get rid of a common cold virus? I caught it from a family memeber...

I stopped taking my antibiotics a couple of days ago, in hopes that my immune system might be able to fight it off. Of course my lyme symptoms are a bit worse without the abx.

Symptoms are sore throat, sniffles, tired, and generally feeling like I've been hit by a truck (more so than usual).

I haven't taken any cold meds and don't want to for fear it will only mask symptoms, not get rid of it. Thanks in advance for the help!

Zinc and zinc lozenges. Large frequent doses of vitamin C.

Thank you! I do drink tons of OJ and take a multi vitamin. I will look into the zinc lozenges as well. [Smile]

I use Thieves essential oil at the first sign of a cold. It seems to help make the symptoms less severe and the symptoms i do get dont last as long.

Wow, every single post is full of excellent and right on advice. I double up on C and take Elderberry Extract. Great for the immune system.

Thieves lozenges are great (as are zinc lozenges), we keep them handy all the time.

Another thing you might want to do is clean out your sinuses with a neti pot. I use it frequently with great results. http://www.amazon.com/NeilMed-NasaFlo-Unbreakable-Premixed-Packets/dp/B000ITHH86

Excellent reviews and well worth the investment.

Get well soon!

Adding - I use Thieves Oil too. You rub it on your chest and the bottom of your feet. Draws out the bacteria. I usually do these when I feel something coming on, and I usually don't get sick. But, this did not help me in January when I got the most wicked cold I've had in years.
