I haven't had any problems with lariam. No side effects, other than minor herxing or achiness, a few days after taking a pill.
It has been effective for me, and had my dosage increased to one pill every four days. I started out with a loading dose of one pill every day for a number of days (don't remember how many).
None of the side effects that make you scared. I also was hesitant to start, but am glad I did.

I take Larium.
I feel kinda crummy the day I take it, and it makes my insomnia worse, but other than that it has been the only antimalarial drug to help my red blood cells.
I spent a fortune taking mepron for 26 months, and still didn't get rid of it.
The larium is much, much less expensive.
One thing to know, larium only treats the phase of Babs (or malaria) that is inside your redblood cells. After you have taken larium for a while, you need to get on something like primaquine to get rid of the life phase that is outside your red blood cells.

oh, one more thing, before you take primaquine, you should first get an enzyme test to make sure your body can metabolize the primaquine.

I took it, too. I only had problems when I used the loading dose. I stopped taking it for two weeks and began again not using the loading dose with no issues at all. I found it to be very effective.

I have been taking Larium for some time now, and I have had no side effects from it. I did not take the loading dose. I take one pill every seven days.
Will you be taking a loading dose first?

I've taken it for 5 months with the only problem being heart problems. BUT-that was a long term thing and as soon as I stopped it., so did my heart problems.
That being said, I was taking one pill every 4 days instead of every 7 and I was taking other meds at the same time and I have had a lot of heart symptoms all along so no telling what caused what.
I did feel the benefit I got from the lariam was worth the discomfort of my heart symptoms.
BTW- I have not heard of anyone else having the same issues I did.
