I had pilonidal cyst surgery last Wenesday, just 2 weeks after my brother's death. I returned to my medication regimen the next day after surgery, which includes omnicef and flagyl.

Well, I feel like I am going to die!! When I stand up I feel dizzy, nauseous, and like I will faint. I am trembling and my face is gray and my eyes bloodshot.

Oh, I think I wasn't ready for surgery but it's too late now. Should I lay off the tick disease treatment so I don't herx while I'm trying to heal from surgery and grief?

I have a phone appt. with my LLMD tomorrow. I wonder what he'll say - will he say I was stupid to go thru surgery after losing my brother? Did I do myself in? I feel so awful.

Lymelady, I'm so very sorry for the loss of your brother two weeks ago. I pray that you will be comforted through your grief and pain.

No, your LLMD will not tell you that you were stupid to have surgery after losing your brother. I am sure he will be compassionate and understanding towards you.

I think since you are having a phone consult with him tomorrow, it would not hurt to hold off on taking the abx until you speak to him. In fact, I think that would be a wise thing to do. Let him know what the surgeon prescribed to you so he's aware of what medications you are taking at this time.

You have been through a lot over the past two weeks. As much as you are able, try to rest and let your body heal from the surgery. Don't put yourself down or be so hard on yourself.

You did what you thought was the right thing to do and now it's time to move forward and not second guess whether it was the right thing to do or not.

Your LLMD will give you some good advice tomorrow. For now, try to rest and do whatever you can to keep yourself from being stressed. Holding off on the abx makes sense, at least until your LLMD advises you otherwise.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Gary

LymeLady,

I would either cut back on the dose or hold off on it completely for a couple of days.

I know that sometimes even when you have been on meds for awhile if you take a break and then try to resume the same dose your body reacts like it is a new med and you herx. It may not make sense scientifically but I do think this can happen.

Actually I think this is why some docs pulse meds -- the bugs do not develop the same resistance or go into hiding. At least that is my theory.

The surgery needed to be done so just breathe a sigh of relief that that obstacle is over and done with. You just need to readjust your med game plan and go on from there.

I am also sorry for your brother's passing.

Hang in there.

Thank you. I think I will do as you say and hold off meds. I'm hoping my doc can help me screw my head back on. I feel lost right now.

My LLMD thinks I may be having liver issues. He wants blood testing ASAP.

Sorry to hear about your all you are going through!

I'd just like to add something to consider. It may not pertain to you at all, if so disregard my ignorance about your situation.

It has to do with the about post out-patient surgery effects.

I had two procedures done last summer. (The only abx I was on was Minocycline.) One was a breast biopsy in which I was put under general anesthesia with Propopheynol (sp?). I had absolutely no after effects.

About a week later, I had a colonoscopy/endo and I had Versed for the "light" anesthesia. What a difference! I was sick for weeks after, with dizziness, mood changes, and even more (if that's possible) debilitating fatigue!

My daughter who had been with me on the last colonoscopy seven years ago, said I had the same reaction. (This summer my husband was with me)

My lyme brain hadn't remembered. The surgeon (not the same one as 7 years ago) told him to remind him, or anyone else, that might perform an outpatient procedure on me about my reaction to Versed. He said some folks can't tolerate it well and something else could be used.

Sorry that was so long, but the point is maybe something is going on due to meds received during surgery.

Just a thought.

Just a thought: I had "twilight" for a shoulder tumor biopsey and felt weak and wretched on the second day afterwards. I called the doctor and was told that the anesthesia can stay in your system for a few days and make you feel weak and off.

That said, perhaps your liver is still getting rid of the aenesthesia and your regular regime tipped the cart.

Just a thought.

Feel better soon,

I too am so sorry to read about your brother's passing and the whallop of stress/pain you are having.

I wonder if the dizziness et al could be stress related. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine dizziness and faintness is related to the kidney yin being weak, and this translates to adrenal fatigue in modern lingo.

I wonder if some eleuthero ginseng could be helpful to you right now? Just a thought.

Have you had this officially diagosed, ruled out other things? This would be very important to do.

YOu can do a subject search here on stress or dizziness, etc:

Take care and please know that we will be thinking of you, CI
